The first clue came when he was actually shopping for his son, as the boy needed things, and he couldn't put it off any more. However, this was a department store, and a group of women had become interested in him, which had made the guys nearby annoyed. So, he'd run, and when he'd been sneaking around a display, he'd accidentally touched a mannequin.... at which point he turned into a virtual double of it. For the first few moments, he'd been surprised, and that allowed his pursuers to catch up. They couldn't tell that the second mannequin was him, and they spent a lot of time looking for him. When they couldn't find him, they returned to their shopping, which left him stuck there until he couldn't hold it anymore. That resulted in an odd situation with a young woman, a rack of clothing, and him nearly falling onto her.
Another day, he was trying to weedle a restaurant owner out of a meal or two, and wound up turning into a crate.
A day after that, he was entertaining the attentions of a girl, and wound up turning himself into a table.
And on that morning, he'd transformed himself into a tree during practice with his son.
By the following week, he'd turned into a platter of sushi, a Colonel Sanders statue, a toilet bowl, and a peach lace camisole. Each of those experiences had proven to him that something had to be up, and the most likely 'culprit' was his rune. He'd never turned into something else before, and the knowledge that he could do that did have its advantages. Unfortunately, he couldn't control it, and didn't understand what was going on. It seemed that every time that he let his emotions get too high, he wound up turning into the nearest object to where he'd been.
Turning into a bush or a pile of dirt when yelling at his son had not been amusing, but he was certain that he could figure out a way to control it, while:
