That didn't mean that he couldn't use one, of course. He wasn't a stupid guy, and he did have no problem with a VCR. This just happened to be one that had a lens attached to it. Picking it up, he realized that it was still going, as he could hear the noises and see the lights coming from it. So he didn't have to worry on that front, which made it slightly easier to take. However, he did have to search a bit for the control buttons, so that he could manipulate it properly. Stopping the recording was simple enough, and even he knew how to rewind a tape. His only problem was that it was showing lots of nothing, as it had been running for a long while before he'd actually managed to find it. Because of that, not only was the battery going to have to be watched, but he had lots of film of the slightly open door.

Yet, it was clear from the film that it wasn't that everyone had been abandoning the neighborhood. Had that been it, the pigtailed boy would have had less of a problem with being left all alone. This made it clear that it wasn't exactly a choice, and he knew that he wasn't going to easily get anyone back.
Instead, he pressed his back against the wall of the shed, slid down until he was sitting, and let the camera rest between his legs as he considered the fact that he'd just seen a recording of what had taken everyone else. Normally, he would have been ready to go, fully prepared to show how much stronger he was in the Art than anyone else. Unfortunately, this was not something that would be solved quite so easily.
What he had seen happen to everyone else was:
