Restart:Missing Persons: The Unblinking Eye [Episode 148990]

by Kender

Ranma saw the video camera on the floor, and knew that it wasn't exactly his sort of thing, since it was technology, and he wasn't well versed in such things. After all, what did that sort of thing have to do with the Art? Anything that didn't have a small battery didn't mean much to him, as it was pointless to carry them. One couldn't eat, sleep on, or even train directly with a camera, so he had never really bothered with it. Besides, it tended to take up space and weight in his pack that he could otherwise use for food, first aid supplies, or something like that.

That didn't mean that he couldn't use one, of course. He wasn't a stupid guy, and he did have no problem with a VCR. This just happened to be one that had a lens attached to it. Picking it up, he realized that it was still going, as he could hear the noises and see the lights coming from it. So he didn't have to worry on that front, which made it slightly easier to take. However, he did have to search a bit for the control buttons, so that he could manipulate it properly. Stopping the recording was simple enough, and even he knew how to rewind a tape. His only problem was that it was showing lots of nothing, as it had been running for a long while before he'd actually managed to find it. Because of that, not only was the battery going to have to be watched, but he had lots of film of the slightly open door.

But he eventually found what he was looking for, and it was as bad as he'd thought. Apparently, whomever had been running the camera had agreed, as that individual had been panting in fear long before they started running. He knew that the person had been aware of the fact that simple blind escaping was not possible, but the fact of the matter was that this was not a moment to simply be standing around. Whoever that was had run for his life, and gone from street to street, looking around for safety, and information as to where other people were. In the end, he'd wound up hiding in the shed, listening to his own breath pounding in his ears, before it had come for him as well.

At least the cameraman had managed to get video of everything that was going on, as he might not have known the extent of it if the nameless soul hadn't managed it. There was no real talking after all, and had he not seen it, he wouldn't have had a chance of knowing what it was.

Yet, it was clear from the film that it wasn't that everyone had been abandoning the neighborhood. Had that been it, the pigtailed boy would have had less of a problem with being left all alone. This made it clear that it wasn't exactly a choice, and he knew that he wasn't going to easily get anyone back.

Instead, he pressed his back against the wall of the shed, slid down until he was sitting, and let the camera rest between his legs as he considered the fact that he'd just seen a recording of what had taken everyone else. Normally, he would have been ready to go, fully prepared to show how much stronger he was in the Art than anyone else. Unfortunately, this was not something that would be solved quite so easily.

What he had seen happen to everyone else was:
