Then his eyes shot open when he realized that there was light shining onto his eye lids. It wasn't the artificial and cold sort of a lightbulb, but of the natural sort that was full of warmth from the sun. Glancing out the window, he saw that sunrise had come and gone hours earlier, as the sun hung over the neighborhood in a way that full morning would allow.
Realizing that he'd slept in, and shocked that he'd been allowed to, he grabbed some clothing, and put it on before heading out of the room that he shared with his father. The hallway was quiet, and he wondered if everyone else had gone out without him. That was entirely possible, if a bit unlikely, as he could not see his old man finding something that would excite him that much to leave the house. Of course, if Ranma himself had been sick, and just hadn't remembered it, like with a high fever, then he could understand if Akane and Nabiki had just gone to school without him. Perhaps it could even be that Kasumi had left to go to the market to get him something to help his recovery.
However, a quick peek made it clear that both of the younger sisters' school materials were still where they normally kept them, and he found Kasumi's shopping bag where it usually was. Yet, there was no sign of the people in the house, as he hadn't found any sign that they had changed anything from when he'd gone to sleep. It was almost like the house was just... waiting for them to come back, whenever they decided to.
And the same situation was at the next door neighbor's house when he went to check at it.
In fact, every house in the neighborhood was empty, and looking like the people living there had just stepped out for a moment. He went everywhere he could think of, from the Ucchan's, to the Nekohanten, to even the Kuno estate, and found that no one was around. Each and every spot that he checked was totally vacant, and quiet, without even a sound from a radio or a television broadcasting a signal. Trying to check the broadcast news was an exercise in futility, since all he got was static, or simple and unchanging screens.
That left him totally lost as what to do, as he wandered around Furinkan, without even a janitor for company. He could remember once having been there at night on a 'ghost hunt' and thinking that it was kind of silent and strange to be there like that, but this was infinitely more weird. Walking the hallways, he heard only his own footsteps, and the only noises that came from elsewhere were normal environmental sounds, or were caused by things he did. It left him able to do anything that he wanted, but without anyone to do it with.
As a result, he simply wandered, taking it all in, and wondering how it could have happened. By what he could see, it seemed that everyone had just up and vanished, but there was no sign of why that had happened. All he had to go on was that it had apparently happened all at once, and that he had been spared whatever had taken everyone else.
Idle curiosity was the only emotion that he could manage in his shocked state, and he shrugged to himself as he came across a shed that he'd passed by before. It wasn't something that had really caught his attention earlier, but he had no direction at the moment anyway. He figured that he might as well look into it, and since it looked like the door was ajar, he could manage it easily enough.
Because of that, he opened the door, and peered inside, to see:
