A little grumbling didn't hurt though. "Can't we get to the neat stuff now?"
"There is a reason for doing certain things, and a balance to your studies," Obi-wan replied with a soft smile. "Remember, it is as important to train your mind as it is your body."
"But trainin' my mind isn't fun."
"That is understandable, but you have to do it. And you do it in more than one way."
"Huh?"
"Think of it this way. If you manage to keep your mind on your homework even if you don't want to, you make your will strong, and when you need to have it, you can have that inner spirit able to keep you going when others fail."
"Ohhh...."
He chuckled and folded his hands in front of himself. "Remember, mind and body must both be at peace, and strong to grow in the force."
"I know! And I'm really tough, ain't I?"
"Yes, but remember, physical strength is not the important thing."
"I know, Master...." she murmured, nudging a small rock with the toe of her shoe. "'Hitting people without a reason only makes you have more problems later....'"
"Very good. Besides, there may be problems that fighting can't solve. Like how you can help people."
"Uh-huh! And I'm gonna protect everyone that I can."
"Hmmm?"
"I mean, when it's right. Pushing people around is bad, and is part of the stuff that turns you to the evil side."
"Something like that. And restraint is good a lot of the time."
"Yeah," she agreed, remembering how she'd initially tried to tell people about meeting him. But since they'd started whispering about 'psychological defenses', 'companionship issues' and 'parental loss adaptation', she hadn't wanted to try to make them understand. She had Obi-wan, and knew that he wasn't some 'invisible friend'. It was true that he had become almost like a father to her, but she'd gotten so much more than just an adult who meant something to her.
Being trained as a Jedi was something that she really wanted, and she was going to work hard for it, while:
