Oh, I forgot to mention this but your deck has a larger portion of Spellcasters than Warriors so calling it a Spellcaster/Warrior deck would be a bit of an exaggeration. But then again, the original Negi focused heavily on magic before any martial arts combat so it all works out.
And I care... how? I mean, why would I care too much about my deck theme? As long as it kicks ass, then I'm happy with it. Give me my deck listing so I can see what I want to take out if I do want to take out anything.
"Negi Springfield? I'm sorry to keep you waiting." A young female voice calls out to you from your right side.
Looks like I don't have time to tweak. Turn and face her.
You see a young woman in her twenties with short blue hair and blue eyes. She is dressed in simple attire (t-shirt, jeans and sneakers) and has a Duel Disk on her left arm. "I'm Amy! I'll be your opponent for your duel exam. If you'll follow me, please?"
Follow her. And is that woman an incarnation of Sailor Mercury in this game?
Nope. The Amy character that you're dueling against was taken from the Pokemon TCG video game for Game Boy Colour. Remember the Water Gym leader duelist in the game? That's the Amy that you'll be facing. Since there weren't any colour specifications, the programmer just gave her blue eyes and hair.
From Pocket Monsters to Duel Monsters, eh? Whatever...
Amy stops and speaks again. "This is where we'll be dueling." You look around and see a mostly empty room. A few other duel examiners were chatting amongst themselves in a corner with one other exam going on to your far right. There's a circular platform right behind Amy and that's where you will be dueling. A small stairway is attached to the side so you can climb up easily. "Your application status to the Academy won't be heavily influenced by the outcome of this duel. Standard dueling rules apply and if any banned cards are seen in your deck, you will be disqualified. Same goes with you having more than the allowed number of restricted cards in the deck. Minimum deck size is 40 cards... and I think that's it for administration stuff. Do you have any questions before we begin?"
Say: "Not really. Let's get going." I might as well put on my dueling glasses just in case. Then climb stairs to my side of the platform.
Amy walks over to her side and gets her Duel Disk ready. "Would you like to go first or second?"
Say: "You can go first." Activate Duel Disk and draw opening hand.
The device comes to life and you can see slots for your monster zone and your magic/trap zone. Your Life Points are at 4000. Amy draws five cards and begins the duel by drawing a sixth card. "First, I'll use the magic card, Graceful Charity!" She plays the card, drew three cards and discarded two. "I'll place a card face down and set a monster! That will end my turn!" Two face down card holograms appear on her field.
Draw for Draw Phase. What do I have to work with?
You have Negate Attack (Trap), Tsukuyomi (4/1100/1400), Copycat (1/0/0), Fissure (Normal Magic), Old Vindictive Magician (2/450/600) and Axe of Despair (Equip Magic). Not a bad hand.
Set Negate Attack. What's Old Vindictive Magician?
An effect monster. When it's flipped, you can destroy any 1 monster on the field regardless of position.
Nice. Set Old Vindictive Magician. End turn.
"During my Standby Phase, I'll return Sinister Serpent to my hand!" Amy got her card back from her graveyard before drawing a new card. "Now I'll use the magic card, Terraforming! This allows me to add a Field Magic card from my deck to my hand!" She looked through her deck and revealed the card, which is A Legendary Ocean. She then shuffled her deck. Then the Field Magic slot of her Duel Disk opened as she played A Legendary Ocean. The playing field turned into a huge body of water and you can see your feet submerged in it.
So what exactly is that?
Field Magic. The card's name is treated as [Umi]. Downgrade all WATER monsters in both players hands and on the field by 1 Level. Increases the ATK and DEF of all WATER monsters by 200 points.
Oh... boy.
"Now I'll summon Giga Gagagico (5/2450/1500) in Attack Mode!" A reptile in spiked armour appeared on the field. Because of her field magic card, she can summon that monster without a sacrifice and its power increases to 2650/1700. "Attack that face down monster now!"
Activate Negate Attack!
Your trap card stops her monster and ends her Battle Phase. "I'll end my turn for now."
What do I draw?
You drew Sakuretsu Armour (Trap).
First, summon Copycat and have it copy the original stats of Giga Gagagico.
As it comes into play, your Spellcaster monster's Attack and Defense become 2450/1500.
Activate Fissure and blow up Giga Gagagico.
Boom. Amy frowns as your magic card destroys her face up monster.
Flip Summon my Old Vindictive Magician and blow up her face down monster.
Done. She now has no monsters on her side of the field.
Activate Axe of Despair and put it on Copycat.
Attack power jumps from 2450 to 3450.
Enter Battle Phase and lay the smackdown with Copycat! And poke her with the geezer too just for the hell of it!
"Not so fast! I activate my face down card... Tornado Wall!" Her trap card springs up and the water reacts to create a defensive wall in front of her to block Copycat and Old Vindictive Magician. Basically, as long as she has [Umi] on the field, all battle damage done to her LP is reduced to zero.
Fuck. Set Sakuretsu Armour and end turn.
Amy draws a new card...
