It also made for a massive hassle for someone who needed to run uphill across fields of grass to get to the place on time. Since it was the first opportunity to get a starter Pokegirl, Ash didn't want to risk missing his chance. Getting there late would have been a problem, and he pushed his body as hard as he could to get from his house to the Professor's lab. He ran as quickly as he could and barrelled into the building, slamming open the door to where the Professor was apparently about to speak to the other hopeful trainers. Every head turned to look in his direction, and he saw surprise in their expressions.
"Ash, you're here," Oak commented dully.

Even the most willing or the strongest Pokegirl can lose, and if you're not a team of some sort, you will definitely not win. Once you start on this path, you have a responsibility to find out how best to handle the Pokegirls that you get, and find out what sort of relationship that you'll have. And remember, lives can depend on what you do, including your own. If you don't do your best in this, people could suffer, and I'm certain that none of you wants that."
