Doing the choosing was Ash, Gary, Ataru, Mamoru, Serph, and Megane. With five pokegirls and six candidates, someone wasn't going to be happy.
Ranma let the lecture go on, sizing up his competition with Ash's memories filtering in. He noticed everyone else was doing the same thing, having come to the same conclusion regarding the numbers.
The just plain nastier of his fellow students was Gary. Gary was a bully, pure and simple. He might have a hot sister, but she was also a bit lonely because he tended to isolate her. Gary was also Oak's nephew, so he probably would have no trouble with placement.
The most lecherous boy in the entire Fort was Ataru. No ifs or ands or buts about it. Good runner and good stamina though - he did pretty good in the marathon and relay races.
The pretty boy, Mamoru looked uncomfortable here. He wasn't too bad, if kinda prissy. Smart student type, probably the least inclined to go the tamer route. Still, if he was going to get a research position - he had to put the time in as a tamer and go off on missions like anyone else.
Ash brought his attention briefly back to the Professor's talk, which was about their pokedexes. Like he hadn't done this word-for-word last week.
Back to his rivals/fellows. There was the cold guy, Serph - who was someone who'd been caught up in the big fight over at another Fort. He'd been one of those who'd escaped, but it hadn't exactly been untouched. The guy's eyes were silver and his hair was gray. Looked like he'd seen something worse than death and it had left him a bit withdrawn from everything around him. Once Gary had tried to bully Serph. Once Gary had been dangled from a rooftop by Serph and been told never to do that again.
Then there was the blustering Megane. He had his little gang he usually ran around with, but they had washed out prior to this. They might make it next year. Hardly anyone remembered the guy's real name. Kinda like Gary, but more a wannabe.
Seven candidates. What he had to choose from was a catgirl, wolfgirl, clawed ghost-girl, succubus, and a bug-girl.
Oh good, the Professor was finally running down.
"-and that's why you should keep a blessed crossbow bolt up your sleeve. Now, Ash, you get first choice as I promised."
Ash nodded. "Okay, Professor. I choose the-"
