When Ash approached him, the Professor held a single finger up to his lips.
Ash bit back all the questions, wondering what was going on when he noticed some handheld scanner in the Professor's hands. There was also some sparkle to the older man's eye. "What-"
"Hush, Ash," said the Professor in a low voice. "You are being stalked."
"What?!" yelped Ash/ranma. He began looking around himself. Then the Ranma portion got up from the secondary position, clocked Ash over the head, and took over the controls. Well, not quite - they weren't seperate personalities - but that was the general idea.
As Ranma he could tell that the feeling of being observed/pursued had been nagging at him for awhile. It hadn't registered as a danger though - so it hadn't really gotten his attention.
She had watched him for years and therefore knew from the way he'd been running that something had been up.
It was when he reached the compound of Professor Oak that she realized what was going on, and the time for a decision had snuck up on her.
What SHE didn't know was that she was someone that Ranma might have met in another life or another time. Or that Ranma might have been someone she had known on another world.
Well, there was only one thing to do. Charge forward and prove her strength!
"Here she comes," said the Professor. "If the usual pattern develops she'll try to impress you with her strength first."
"Huh?" asked Ash.
"It's kind of like going to a job interview," said the Professor thoughtfully. "She wants to demonstrate that she can protect you."
"Yeah right," said Ash, as he saw a pokegirl show up and clumsily charge to the attack.
