"Incoming wormhole," Grodin called as he activated the ancient's forcefield. Looking down at Atlantis's stargate he absently noted the now familiar formation of the event horizon behind the protective barrier. Then his eyes widened as a dull boom resounded through the room as the event horizon suddenly changed, pulling back into a point of light from which rings of light cycled outward to the gate.
Shaking his head he immediately activated his communicator. "Dr. Weir, Dr. McKay! Something's happening in the gateroom!"
Dr. Weir looked up from her computer, rising to her feet and walking toward her window as she put on her headset. She opened her mouth to ask for clarification, but the words died in her throat as she looked down towards the strange pattern of light being released by the gate. Hurrying out the door, she ran onto the walkway, and paused to look over the railing down to where she could see the gate. "What the. . ." Pausing to activate her headset continued toward the op center at a brisk walk. "Any indications on what's happening to the Gate?" She continued, not hearing anything as she turned into the city's control room "Grodin?" She called.
"Just a moment, Doctor, we're receiving a radio signal . . . It's from Stargate Command!"
"How's that . . ." Dr. Weir looked down at where Rodney McKay was standing, staring at the gate. "Rodney!" She called loudly.
With a start, Dr. McKay turned and ran up the stairs to the control room. "Is there any indication . . . no, if you knew anything you wouldn't be asking for me." He declared as he walked to the Ancients controls and began comparing them with the Earth made laptops they were connected to.
"Actually we're getting a message from the SGC," Dr. Weir stated. "Grodin, if you would?"
With a nod Grodin typed a quick command.
"Hello? This is Brigadier General O'Neill of the SGC calling Atlantis Expedition, do you read me?" Jacks voice crackled from the speakers.
Weir pointed to her headset, and Grodin typed in a quick command then nodded to her.. "General O'Neill," Dr. Weir raised her hand to touch the headset. "Atlantis Base reads you loud and clear, however your gate looks strange, can you explain?"
"In a nutshell, I took the gate to another universe, and then used their gate to link with you."
"Another Universe?" Rodney interjected, grabbing up another headset. "Sir, No degree of quantum flux can bypass the power requirements um . . . Can you put Major Carter on?"
"Sorry, it's just me this time. But, Sam did set up a high-speed data burst using a compression program you developed. If you're set up to receive it, I can send you all the information we've got . . ."
"Just a second," Rodney looked over the systems briefly. "Send it!"
Dropping into a chair, he began typing at the laptop, then sat back as information began to scroll up the screen. "My god."
"You've got it?" Jack asked.
Dr. Weir looked at Rodney, who nodded, his eyes never leaving the screen. "Data received."
"Good!" General O'Neill declared. "And for the record, it's good to make contact with you again. We don't know if Atlantis's DHD is set up to dial between Universes, but the informations all in there. If you can contact us, the address to call us back is also in there. If not, we will contact you again in 24 hours." There was a pause. "Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to leave to attend a funeral."
"Our condolences."
Jack O'Neil walked out the doors into a large courtyard. Looking ahead he nodded approvingly at the modified Huey helicopter being checked over by two flight officers from his home world, with several curious Fire Country engineers looking on with fascinated looks on their faces. "Is she flightworthy?" he called.
One engineer took a step back from the aircraft. "We've had it here for over 48 hours, and the tests confirm that the only portion rendered inoperative by this world's laws of nature is it's fuel. So as long as the fuel in it holds our world's laws, it'll work just like back home. Same for weapons if we were arming it."
"So it's flightworthy?"
"For the next," the mechanic glanced down at his watch, "Forty six hours and thirty two minutes."
