Zone of the Xenosaga: Going's on in the Background. [Episode 150317]

by Ninja Kasuga of the Demonite Race

The past fourteen years ago:

Joachim Mizrahi knew he didn’t have much time left. So many evil things were going to occur and he knew he couldn’t stop them all, and the path he felt would have the best desirable end result would still be harsh to the universe.

If there was one consolation to the seemingly endless chain of dark events; aside from MOMO’s birth, this machine before him was something that gave him a light of hope. He stared up at the legendary Orbital Frame known as Jehuty, it was a freak accident he found its container while Labyrinthos was being constructed, and very hard to conceal it from prying eyes when he did.

Between his work on MOMO he would come to the secret hanger he built for the relic of an era long gone, checking the systems and ensuring the thousands of years or dormancy hadn’t caused any damage. To his delight it was practically pristine when he found it; all of its systems were intact with no sign of internal decay. Even in this century the mineral Metatron was still an unknown enigma, but it never ceased to amaze him with its marvels.

“Too bad your Runner’s pod is missing.” He mused as he ran a hand over the cockpit seal. “Maybe if you had him you could maybe help ease the madness happening here if not outright stop it.” He said with no lack of reverence. While many of the legends of Jehuty were lost to time he was one of the few who studied the history of Orbital Frames including this one. “Alas but his pod was somehow separated from you, if I could handle the rigors of piloting I’d use you myself but my old body couldn’t handle it.”

He left the catwalk, walking down the steps back onto the floor of the hanger. He turns to look at Jehuty once again. “By the way my new daughter MOMO was born and I have to thank you for making her birth possible in a sense. I used the data from your evolutional Metatron A.I. to construct her brain and give her true human emotions and free will. I regret however she had to be born in such dark times, and I really wish that Sakura could have lived to meet her new sister.” Saddness etched into his ages face, he closes his eyes as he calms himself from the well of despair of losing his child. “At least I know Sakura is in a better place in the Lord’s bosom even thought that doesn’t bring Juli or myself much solace. Juli…” He mumbles his wife’s name. “I know you will hate me for doing what I must do, as most of the universe undoubtedly will…but I must.” He sighs looking at the mighty mech once more. “Farewell Jehuty, I must seal you up once again and hopefully you will be left in peace as you should. However with the greed and ambition of the people behind the tragedies unfolding topside…I doubt my efforts will keep them away for good.”

”I’ve entrusted the password to your resting place to MOMO, if by some chance you maybe needed, she will find you somehow.” Joachim says. “Maybe she will find your Runner, somehow I feel he has not perished and will return to you if fate decrees it.” He walks toward the opens doors, pushing buttons on an open panel before stepping outside the now slowly closing blast doors. “Some would call me crazy talking to an Orbital Frame but I know the Metatron within you has a Will, a conscience like we humans have. I bid you farewell and Godspeed in whichever journey you will take from here. Good bye.”

Those words said the doors shut with a heavy clang, a secondary sliding door closed over the first set of blast doors and a security lock engaged. Behind the doors in the now dark hanger, a pair of blue optics shined brightly in the darkness before dimming into nothing once again.

”Leo…” A ghostly mechanical voice echoed in the darkness. ”Be alive.”

The present:

A loud yawn ripped through the office of a building within the colony of the Kukai Foundation. A woman in her early thirties stretched in her chair, her lab coat melding against her well developed form as the stretch continued on for half a minute before the woman stopped. Her skin was slightly tanned naturally due to inherited traits from her Grandmother, but the blonde hair come from her Mother directly, her red eyes from her Father as was her tall stature.

Closing her book she grumbled softly. “Lame ending, the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s widow did it.” Why she read such predictable mystery novels was beyond her. She began to play with her hair braid when she heard a distinct beeping sound. Her head instantly cocked toward a work bench in the room outside the office where a console was flashing. Her swivel chair was left empty as she raced into the room and hunched over the console. “I don’t believe it, after all this time someone finally thawed out? I’m surprised any pods from that era still existed!”

A slow grin began to curl on her lips. The device was a relic she acquired a few years ago. About sixteen years ago this woman was thawed out after being frozen due to a nasty biological plague that infected her as a fifteen year old girl. Unable to cure her she was frozen to prevent her death. Four thousand years later she was thawed, revived and treated after her pod like many others got shipped around from place to place until the sands of time seemed to swallow her forever.

The device was designed to detect the signals of other pods from the era she was born in and would go off if the electronic signal indicating the pod was opened went off.

For the first time since she acquired the device it had gone off, but what caught her interest more was the name of the revived individual.

”Leo Stenbuck? Oh, my, my, my now he’s someone I never expected would be found. If he was found then that means Professor Mizrahi’s theory was correct, score one for the wrongfully declared madman.” The woman smiled, she had been a student of Joachim Mizrahi’s before the Miltia Conflict and was one of the few who knew his “madness” was a scapegoat story. “But the Runner can’t do much with his machine sealed on Miltia…then again I doubt U-TIC is going to allow Miltia to remained sealed any longer given their recent resurgence. Hmm I need to find out just where Mr. Stenbuck’s pod is loca-“

KER-TRASH!

The woman twitched VERY badly, a large vein forming on her forehead. “DOLORES?!! Did you break another one of my good china dishes again?!” She screamed loud enough to shake the whole building.

The sound of running feet filled the air as the door to the room opened. A head with covered in strawberry blonde hair emerged from behind the door. A pair of green eyes accompanied by a pouting face looked at the woman as a pair of pink fin-like objects emerged from the side of her head and began to droop. “I-I’m sorry Ms. Nianna! I didn’t mean too! Oooh sometimes I forget my own strength!”

Nianna sighs as she rubs her head. “Ahhh don’t…worry about it Dolores plates are easy to replace just try and watch the strength.

Dolores smiled. “Oh thank you for not being mad at me!” She squealed happily; the once Orbital Frame A.I./Ender Computer was a sort of heirloom Nianna Links acquired when she was thawed out. In her Grandparents older years they left her Grandfather ship the Ender along with the A.I. Dolores which was kept in storage amazingly intact all this time. One of Nianna’s first tasks when she was thawed was to put Dolores into a Realian body that she felt was more suited to the girlish A.I. Originally Dolores started with a Kirchwasser type body and as the years went by was upgraded with more mature Realian frames to help simulate “growing up” alongside Nianna. Now Dolores had a full grown Realian frame custom-tuned by Nianna herself who was a Realian expert among other scientific fields.

Nianna rubbed her stiff shoulder. “Dolores just as a heads up, I think things are going to get hectic around here.”

”Hectic? In what way Nianna?” Dolores cutely bats her eyes.

“Hectic like the situation you and Grand-Dad were in before you became the Enders computer.” Nianna grinned, slightly amused at Dolores freaked out expression.

”WAAAAAAAAAAAH!! I don’t wanna be hunted down again!” Dolores cried as she held her head and began to run around the room in a panic.

Nianna sighed. “To think she used to be the combat computer for an Orbital Frame…”
