A image appeared from the holo-generator on his desk. Instead of another Federation Representative calling to bitch about the sudden appearance of the Song of Nephilim, he was pleasantly surprised to see the visage of Dr. Nianna Links. “Well, well, Dr. Links, to what honor do I owe your unexpected and quite welcome call?”
Nianna softly pushed up her glasses. She was smiling but only faintly. “Sorry I don’t call more often General- oh right “Representative” Helmer, I still can’t get used to you as a politician.”
“That makes two of us.” Helmer allowed himself a chuckle.
Nianna’s faint smile slowly faded. “I wish I could laugh myself, but the news I have is rather urgent. As it is it has to do with a secret my late mentor and I both kept from everyone else.”
Now Helmer was worried. Nianna Links was a composed but outgoing and fun-type person, her level of seriousness meant something big happened, especially if it had to do with something the late Joachim Mizrahi was once involed with. “Oh dear, as if the universe isn’t in turmoil enough. So tell me, what it is you needed to call me about?”
Nianna’s words were clear and to the point. “Jehuty still exists.”
That made Helmer’s eyes widen. The word Jehuty was like a spoken myth or legend everyone assumed was lost to the sands of time. “What do you mean…still exists?”
”Just like I said. Dr. Mizrahi and I FOUND Jehuty on Miltia a few months before he began work on the 100-Series Realian Prototype MOMO.”
Helmer softly gripped the armrest of his chair as he closed his eyes and counted to ten to regain his bearings. “What condition was the unit in?”
“It was as if the sands of time never touched it. It was pristine; everything from the insides to the outer armor, to even the combat A.I. was intact.” Nainna explained. “We couldn’t activate it fully but we were able to activate the onboard combat A.I. and have a few words with her.”
“Her?”
”Yes her, the designated combat assistant for Jehuty is a female A.I. named ADA. In any case after studying what we could, Dr. Mizrahi re-sealed it shortly before Miltia totally went to hell fourteen years ago.”
Helmer rubbed the bridge of his nose for a moment as he listened to Nianna’s explanations. “So tell me Dr. Links, why bring this up now?”
“Because someone has thawed out Jehuty’s Frame Runner. The signal beacon for Leo Stenbuck’s stasis pod went off, meaning he’s been found and woken up,” Nianna explained gravely. “I did a check through various systems and no organization associated with the Federation, Vector or the Kukai Foundation has the pod.”
”Meaning?”
Nianna closed her eyes. “U-TIC must have it.”
Helmer frowned deeply. “That…isn’t good. However if Jehuty is still safely sealed on Miltia we can breathe easy for a bit.”
“If only for just a bit as you say.” Nainna sighed. “Helmer, we both know U-TIC’s goal is to unseal Miltia to get at the Zohar. If they discover Jehuty is there as well, it could be very bad. Despite it being considered a relic, Jehuty is more powerful than half the battleships in the Federation Fleet. I’d say save for the Durandal and Dammerung it can take out any battleship or weapon you throw at it.”
“Does anyone else know where Jehuty is located besides you?”
“Aside from me only Dr. Mizrahi knows, and he is no longer able to talk.” Nianna sighed. “However he did say he was entrusting MOMO with the pass code to Jehuty’s hange, but it’s just as heavily encrypted as the Y-Data and he also put some sort of safe-block that renders most hacking attempts useless.”
“That girl is currently in the hands of Albedo, and his objective is the Y-data. Suppose he uncovers the Jehuty data?”
Nianna frowned. “I doubt he would notice it…but if he did it would, I think in a way Dr. Mizrahi wanted to protect Jehuty’s location more than how to undo the Miltia Seal. Don’t ask me why but it’s a gut feeling that a student shares with her teacher.”
“I see, so what actions do you plan to take?”
”First I’m going to ascertain Leo Stenbuck’s location or lack of a known location to determine if U-TIC has him or not. Then I’ll go to the Durandal with Dolores to inform Master Gaignun and the Little Master of these events.”
“Very well, please keep me posted on your findings.” Helmer nods.”
”Will do, sir.” That said, the transmission cut off.
Helmer fully reclined back into his chair, looking up towards the ceiling. “The ghosts of the distant past are becoming just as much if not more a pain in the ass than the ghosts of fourteen years ago.”
