The odd thing about it was that Ash was decidedly not a warrior in any way, shape or form. When he was younger, the only toughness that he had came from his ability to bounce back after injuries. He wasn't skilled in the art of combat, and had, until recently, been a rather open and... well, thick, individual, to put it lightly. It wasn't that the boy was stupid, per say, but he was a bit slow on the uptake on some things. And while it was easy to see him with a pokegirl, given the talent that he had already shown in that arena, it'd been more expected for him to get something a bit simpler, like a sylph, sprite, or something similar to start off with.
That he'd gotten a warrior spirit right off the bat was a bit of a surprise, to say the least.
"She's my pokegirl?" Ash asked.
Oak nodded. "Yes, she is. And it seems that she's a warrior spirit."
"Wow.... I got one?"
"Well, she chose you, so there's no misinterpreting that. You're now her summoner," the Professor replied, with an agreeing nod from the spirit in question.
"It's a great start, don't you think?"
"True, though...."
"What?"
"I'm rather surprised. It's not everyday that a starting summoner gets one of her type as his starter."
Ash grinned back, as he was pretty certain that he knew what had called him. "Guess that I can't skip being around girl fighters."
"Eh?"
"Nothing...."
"If you say so," Oak allowed, but he wasn't able to push aside the possible clue as to what had happened to Ash as he looked between the boy and his summon, the latter which happened to be at least looking a lot like:
