"(Why not challenge the boy then? He's at least cute,)" said Rin Rin. "(You rough him up some, run them out of town, then we can get back to normal.)"
"(Hey,)" protested Shampoo. "(We have maybe two times a year we can actually indulge in our cultural heritage without drawing the attention of those Old Men. My big moment of glory is trashed by this lard-butt, I want some sort of compensation!)"
"(Take a good look at these two,)" interjected Dowel. "(If either of them has any kind of serious money, I'm a ballerina.)"
"(Got a point,)" confessed Ran Ran.
"(Serious point,)" seconded Rin Rin.
"(Yup,)" agreed Shu Bop.
"(About the only satisfaction you could get out of them is to severely beat on him,)" pointed out Cologne. "(We would have had to replace the wax anyway, it was over twenty years old. Where we'll get the budget is anyone's guess but I doubt these two could pay for any of it. Getting the fat one to work is probably going to require more work than you'd get. No, I think indulging in some violent stress-relief is about the only salvage on this situation.)"
"(Then that's what I'll have to take, I guess,)" said a dissatisfied Shampoo.
Ranma was thinking that maybe, just maybe, he'd avoided the whole challenging Shampoo thing. She wouldn't have to fight him, she wouldn't have to lose, no Kiss Of Death or Kiss Of Marriage, no chasing him all over China and Japan, no Jusenkyo curse, and so on. She could continue to live in the village and have her relatively happy life here. No Nekohanten or Amazon Advanced Techniques for him, but there were a few other things he was planning on doing without as well. He was going to go the "hero" route and make a difference in the world and getting caught in that day-to-day insanity was just NOT conducive to that role.
The rapid Chinese speaking by the natives finally came to a close. Shampoo got that dreaded determined expression on her face. Finally she just went ahead and attacked, yelling what was obviously a challenge.
Genma took the bonbori to the head and went down like a large sack of potatos, at least this stopping his complaining about all the pain from his feast.
Shampoo looked even more disgusted, turned towards Ranma, and attacked HIM.
