In the new history when Japan and America were at war, the nuclear missile had been invented 30 years prior. It had just never been used because of mutual agreement. However, during World War II, Japan broke the agreement and launched nuclear missiles at America. America retaliated and launched its own missiles.
If it had just stopped there then only the two countries would have been ruined, and the world might've survived. But Japan called in its allies and had them launch their missiles at America's allies. After a fierce nuclear exchange, half the world was an irradiated cinder. Billions of people died. The civilizations fell apart.
A decade later the world was in a feudal society. People had lost all their technology. Everything about civilization had fallen apart completely.
The surviving people fought like cats and dogs. The strong ruled the weak. The weak obeyed or perished. Slavery was common. Slaves had no rights and were treated worse than animals.
Another decade later, and it was worse. Conditions had fallen. Life was horrible. Everyone suffered terribly. Death was rampant. The people cried out in terror as life became unbearable then. The living envied the dead.
A few decades later, in a time that would have been known as the 1990s AD, a young girl was walking.
Usagi Tsukino, the only daughter of Warlady Ikkuko and Warlord Kenji Tsukino, looked around her domain.
She was proud that her parents had come here. When most people shunned the old cities of the before-times, her parents had come to this old city of the lost-people. The radiation had died down so it was safe to be inhabited. They knew this because they had a relic of the before-times, a device called a computer that could tell them what was safe and what wasn't. This part of the old city of Tokyo, the Minata Ward called Juubann, was at safe radiation levels. While the levels would have killed someone of the lost-people of the before-times, her own people had mutated and could handle some radiation. They had brought their slaves here, and made this their capital. From here they launched raids on the nearby villages. Those that surrendered were spared and enslaved. Those that resisted were burnt to the ground.
'As it should be.' Usagi thought. 'The strong rule the weak, and the weak obey. Or perish. In blood.'
She smiled as she remembered the raid on a disobeying village her parents had let her come on. She remembered how good it felt to ride through the weak on her horse, with her mighty sword cutting them all down. The pleasure as she silenced their cries for mercy. The tingle of joy she felt as she plunged her blade into a woman begging her to spare her child, then killing the child.
She giggled. 'I'll have to ask Father and Mother if I can come on more raids. That was fun! I really so look forward to doing that again.'
A whimper brought her attention back the slave girl she had been torturing. She saw that the marks she had made on the girl were bleeding. She smiled, and wiped up some of the blood on her fingers, then brought her fingers to her lips.
'Mmmmmm.' thought Usagi. 'There is nothing sweeter than the blood of a terrified virgin. Of course I look forward to tasting her blood after I take her virginity as well.'
She smiled and giggled, then looked right down into the eyes of...
