“Poppa?”
“Ah, you’re awake at last. Well, let’s get some practice in before we have breakfast.”
Genma helped his son up and led him out to the dojo.

Genma wanted Ranma to be the best martial artist of his generation, but didn’t think that his hosts would appreciate Ranma going through the regime he had originally planned. But still, one of the factors that made the Anything Goes style so powerful was the ability of its practitioners to adapt to any situation.
So Ranma’s training for the foreseeable future was seriously lightened: instead of using stones to toughen the boy up, small pieces of garden debris were used for speed and dodging practise.
Ranma, for his part, loved every minute of what he considered to be a game that he got to play with his father.
“Come on then, Poppa, let’s see how good you are!” Ranma said as he picked up a handful of small stones and clumps of dried mud.
Genma smiled at the boy in front of him. “Ok then, son. See if you can hit me.”
Ranma flung the detritus at his father in an attempt let him have some of the fun.
The older Saotome dodged, ducked, dived and generally evaded the missiles, showing those that were watching just how good he was at avoiding trouble that came his way.
He finished with a leap over the pond and picked Ranma up and lifted the small boy upside down, over his head.
“Got you now, little man!” the stocky martial artist laughed.
Ranma giggled as he squirmed in his father’s grasp.
“Breakfast is ready!” Reiko called out to the teacher and his student.
“Come on son,” Genma said as he set Ranma down, “Let’s wash our hands before we eat.”

After three days at the Tendo Dojo, the Saotomes left the Tendo family, promising that Ranma would visit them again.
Ranma was sad that he was leaving his new friends, but understood that he needed to catch up with his training.
Genma was glad that plans were in place should something happen to him. He decided to move on, hoping that Ranma would be able to catch up with some intensive training.
