Let's get back to the original plan of checking out the Kendo booth.
You make your way towards the Athletics Centre and squeeze past the small crowd that had gathered near the tennis booth. Momoshiro is pretty happy at the turnout by the way.
Whatever.
Anyways a boy about your age with trim brown hair and green eyes greets you. He had a plain brown gi and hakama on. "Good afternoon. Are you interested in taking a look at the Kendo club?" Beside him is a young Japanese girl in a red gi and hakama.
Say: "Yeah. How does the club typically run?"
"We usually meet for a two hour practice twice a week. We also participate in competitions and hold other events to raise money for us to donate to charity or to help with club expenses. My grandfather and his friend Un No usually do the instructing while there are other advanced students such as myself who act as assistant coaches. Club fees are 150 DP a year and that's as low as we can get since we have to provide basic equipment for new students and have armour available for rent for the higher students."
Say: "That's neat to hear. What the hell? I'll sign up." Sign up and fork the DP over too.
Your DP stash goes down from 2650 to 2500 as you pay the treasurer, who is the female in the red uniform, for your membership card. Then you sign your name on the sheet, add your PDA address to the mailing list and write down your previous experiences with Kendo. The young girl notices this. "You've practiced for six years, Negi?"
Say: "Yeah. A friend of mine trained me seven days a week for an hour. I learned a lot from her."
"I see. Do you have your own Kendo gear?" asked the boy. And for the record, you do have the required Kendo equipment back at your quarters with the uniform and the bokken (wooden sword for basics and form practice) and the shinai (bamboo sword for sparring) because of your training at the Kendo club when you were growing up.
That's neat to hear. Say: "It's at my dorm."
"Then would you mind getting your gear and coming back in half an hour? I would like to see how good you are in a quick free spar," said the boy firmly.
Since I got the time, why not? Say: "I'll be back as soon as possible." Go back to my quarters, get my gear and then come back to the booth.
The trip takes you about twenty minutes and soon you are back at the booth with your gear in a sports bag in your hand. Since you won't be dueling or anything, your Duel Disk and deck are safely secured in the bag. The booths have shut down for the day and the young girl and her associate are waiting for you. "Please follow me," said the young man.
Follow him.
He leads you inside the Athletics Centre to a gym. "Get changed and meet me in the gym." You see the door to the male changing room.
Let's get ready for this battle then.
When you enter the changing room, you see plenty of benches, a washroom with sinks and toilets, and a small space with multiple shower faucets. There are also lockers with electronic locks on them.
Electronic?
You need your PDA for this one. The electronic lock will scan your PDA before opening itself up. Then you can put your stuff in. You need to keep your PDA with you so that you can open the locker again. And nobody else can use their PDAs on an occupied locker for security purposes. Once you clear all your stuff out, the electronic lock can accept any other PDA from someone else so they can use it.
Cool. Get me strapped up!
[Your attire changes from an Obelisk Blue uniform to your dark blue Kendo uniform. Shinai and Kendo armour have been added to your inventory. Your DP, Duel Disk and deck are secured in your sports bag in your locker while your PDA is still with you]
Now that I'm strapped up, go meet with the guy in the gym.
The two teenagers notice your arrival. The young man now has Kendo armour and has his shinai. "The match will only be two minutes long. Do not worry about winning or losing. This is simply a spar to assess your skill level," explains the girl. Your opponent has entered the small circle that you will be battling in.
Enter circle as well. Take defensive stance.
As soon as you enter the circle, you prepare yourself. The girl placed the PDAs together on the bench so that she could keep an eye on them before shouting, "BEGIN!!"
Use Superb Martial Arts Skills to kick ass!!
Easier said than done. The young man is well trained and the two of you seem to be equally matched (with him being slightly better than you). The shinai continually clash against each other and you two continue to parry and dodge the other's attacks. He did get a quick strike on you but you were able to shake it off. The match is over in no time.
Crud.
"That was quite impressive, Negi." The young man takes off his helmet to wipe some sweat from his forehead.
Say: "Thanks. But you were able to get that strike on me so you're obviously the better one."
"That doesn't matter. What matters is that I think you can come on board the club as our new assistant coach. We could use an extra helper for the beginner students. What do you say?"
Smile and say: "Sure! That would be neat!"
"The coach meeting is the day after tomorrow at 6 PM, right here at the gym. You can meet the rest of us there. By the way, I'm Hida Iori and this lady here is Tokane Hibiki." She bows politely as Iori introduces her.
A guy from Digimon and a gal from Last Blade? This should be interesting...
