Plant type pokegirls were strong against water attacks, and could soak up a lot of liquid. That meant that the last attack that he should have used was something like 'waterspout' which would have merely been like watering the grass. It would have taken a lot of water to take down such a pokegirl, and he knew that Misty wasn't at that level yet. For such a pokegirl, a fire attack would have been best, and Misty had that as well. So, it all boiled down to the fact that he should have scanned the strange pokegirl first and then decided on the attack.
But that wasn't going to change what had happened, and he helped his pokegirl up, looking apologetic as he did so. "You okay, Misty? Sorry 'bout getting things messed up like that...."
"Eh?" Misty answered.
"You did good, and I'm certain that you'll do great next time."
"Guh!"
"Yeah.... Oh, and Oriad?" he turned to the named pokegirl. "Thanks for the help."
"Only thing could do. Not need to be told. Already have Master," Oriad told him.
"I know, and that makes it better. It was really good of you."
"Nice of you to say."
"I mean it," he replied with a smile, before turning to consider his options. He knew that this was decidedly not how a starting journey for a trainer was supposed to be. But it was what he had to deal with, and so he'd have to figure out the answers to himself. He considered his options, and decided that the first thing that he would do would be to:
