"Akitsuki!" cried out a feminine voice in obvious distress.
But his old man had never taught him to go out of his way to help people, and that was in one direction that they definitely differed. Changing the direction that he was heading, he turned and headed over to the source of the scream. It wasn't hard to find, what with several girls looking on in distress as one guy, looking already battered faced off against a bunch of punks carrying various improvised weapons.
"Suzuka!" the protective boy called to the girls. "Get everyone away from here!"
"And what are you going to do?!" snapped a short haired girl with points to her ears.
"I'll keep them busy!"
"You'll get yourself killed!"
"I might get really hurt, but they want you guys!"
"That we do," sneered one of the attackers. "And we are going to get them no matter what. So, your little lap dog isn't going to protect you, freak."
Suzuka glared back at them, and let her fists ball at her sides. "At least he's better than you idiots!"
"Yeah, right."
"And he won't be even any trouble," another mob member commented with a leer. "We'll take him out with plenty of time to 'play' with you before we make sure that you're taken care of."
"Actually, he shouldn't fight with ya guys at all," Ranma inserted neatly.
The gang leader turned and looked thoughtfully at the new arrival, who was walking calmly over to them. "Is that so?"
"Sure am."
"Then you think that he should step aside and let us handle these freaks too, huh?"
"Not at all."
"Then what do you want from us."
"For ya ta fall down," the pigtailed boy replied as he moved so quickly that the attackers couldn't react. With a punch to the gut, he took the guy out, and sent him dropping to the ground in a heap. Then, he turned and grinned at the others there, confusing the hell out of them.
Before they could figure anything out from that, he darted forward, and punched three more of the mob in short order, knocking each of them out. That set off the rage of the mob, and the rest of them charged at him, intent on getting back at him. However, none of them were as quick as he was, so he had a big advantage. That didn't mean that it was easy, as there were more than a handful of them. But by combining a dodge from one as an attack on another, he was able to maximize what he did have.
When all was said and done, he stood tall amongst all the unconscious forms of the attackers.
The boy who'd been trying to protect the girls simply stared at him, much as the girls were. He wobbled a bit, and even though he tried his hardest to stand up, he tripped and started to fall.
"Oh, no! Akitsuki!" gasped one of the girls as she rushed over to help steady him.
Akitsuki smiled back at her. "I'm okay, Honoka."
"I'm glad."
"Yamato's just lucky," Suzuka grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest. "Taking on all those guys was crazy."
"And the only thing that kept ya alive," Ranma told her.
"Huh?"
"Your friend was between ya and them. They wanted ta kill ya no matter what, but puttin' himself there gave ya at least some more time."
"And what does that do, besides get him hurt?"
"Plenty. Could let ya get someplace safe, or even away from them. Or ya could get ta find a way ta defend yourself with little danger ta ya. Hell, ya could just make them too frustrated ta bother with ya. When ya need ta survive, 'time' can be your only advantage."
She looked almost like she wanted to pout, but merely scowled at him instead. "How do you know all this anyway?"
"Experience. I'm a martial artist, trained for fightin'. And none of that tournament stuff, though I could easily compete in 'em. I'm the real thing, just like ya saw. Why are ya so uptight 'bout it, anyway?"
"I am not uptight! I just don't want him to get hurt at all!"
"Suzuka," Yamato murmured, blinking at her.
The short haired girl flushed, and turned away, acting like she was totally disinterested in the situation.
"Still, ya guys need ta move. Like now. These guys are all over the place. If ya want, ya can stick with me for a bit. I can show ya ways ta get outta town without bein' noticed," the pigtailed boy told them.
"That might be a good idea," a tall girl with a pony tail replied. "My name's Miki Hashiba. What's yours?"
"Ranma Saotome. Nice ta meet ya."
"They will be coming back soon, right Saotome?" Soun asked as they sat overlooking the yard.
Genma nodded. "Of course they will. What other choice could they have?"
Then the two of them pulled up some of the ramen from their cups with their chopsticks and slurped it up, only to wind up looking like stoic samurai enduring some sort of long torture as they swallowed.
Yomi pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "This isn't good."
"What part?" Osaka asked innocently. "Driving with Miss Yukari until she crashed, or seeing the guys wanting to hurt us?"
"Both, I guess, though if we'd died in that car, at least it would have been quick."
Miss Yukari glared at them. "You're the ones that got into the car with me!"
"Only because we had to."
"And now it'll mean nothing," mocked one of the mob in front of them.
"But I got us a plane out of here!" Chiyo complained with Sakaki looking rather put out for her.
"That's too bad. But think of it this way. We'll get you away from us clean folk all too... GAH!" the man choked off, as a teenaged boy was landing, knees first, onto his face.
As soon as they landed, the boy smirked down at the now unconscious man. "Ya were sayin'? Guess ya ain't gonna say anythin' for a bit now."
"You freak loving...." snarled another mob member.
"Oops. Gotta go see your friends."
"Why you...."
The mob had the force of self righteous delusional anger on their side, but the boy still had them outclassed. He moved so quickly and skillfully that he was able to move from one to the other before the first one had fallen down. As the mob was not organized, they had the number advantage, but not the organization. As the female audience watched, he took out each and every one of the mob.
Chiyo's eyes went wide as she saw the boy drop the last attacker down and turn to walk towards them. "Wow! You were like a superhero!"
"Nah. Just someone that thinks all this 'freak' junk's stupid. The name's Ranma Saotome."
"Thank you, Ranma," Yomi told him. "They came after us, and well...."
"You weren't left with much of a choice. I gotcha. Good thing that I was passin' by on my way out."
"'Out'? 'Out' of where?"
"The country. I'm headin' ta China, ta meet up with some friends that are already on their way there."
"That's a funny thing."
"Oh?"
"We're on our way out of the country too!" Chiyo told him.
"Ya were?"
"Uh-huh. We have a plane waiting for us, and we're going to meet some friends there, only...."
"What?"
"Miss Yukari broke the car...."
"I told you that it was an accident!" the teacher snapped. "It wasn't like I was trying to crash!"
Ranma blinked and stared at the woman, while:
