"Old friend!" called out a familiar voice, and the concern made room for actual joy as he recognized who was speaking.
"Brother!" he replied, and hurried over to the portly man in a gi. "It is so good to see you!"
"As it is to see you, my old friend. You look great."
"So do you."
"And I guess that this is Ranma's father..." Akane muttered.
"That is me. Genma Saotome. And since you've met my son, I know that you know why I've brought him here."
"Actually, we were just talking about that...."
"'Talk'? I suppose that it could be necessary to figure out which one of you would be the best choice for him...."
Akane's teeth ground together. "That's not it...."
"Then why would anyone have to talk? Though I don't understand the problem. It is a matter of honor."
"There won't be any problem with honor...."
"What?! Don't tell me that you're going to try to do away with...." Genma barked... and then stopped with a yelp when a folded paper fan was slapped onto his face. "Ow! Why'd you do that?!"
"So that you'd stop and listen," Nabiki replied as she gave him a cool look. "We've already handled this 'engagement' situation."
"Just how did you do that?"
"Ranma's going to be with my big sister, Kasumi. Simple, easy, and not needing you to butt in like you are."
"Oh. Who's Kasumi?"
"That is me," the named girl replied, nodding slightly. "But now that you are here, I'm certain that you'll need something to eat and drink. Let me handle it."
The Saotome patriarch watched the soft girl go, and frowned thoughtfully. "That is very good of her. Does she do that very often?"
"I wouldn't know what I'd do without Kasumi," his friend answered.
Nabiki fought the urge to roll her eyes. "You see, she's basically been doing a lot for a long time now. She's a great cook, keeps a perfect house, and best of all, is the kindest, gentlest and most giving person that I know."
"She is?"
"You sound like that's a terrible thing," Akane growled.
"Not at all! My boy's really lucked out on this!"
"Huh?"
"Just think of it, boy! You'll have a wife who will know how to take care of you properly!" the elder Saotome declared, slapping his son on his back hard enough to make him bend.
"There ain't only that, ya know," Ranma snapped.
"But it's still great for you. She's probably one of those nice and quiet ones too. Pretty girl though. You really knew which one to pick."
"I didn't pick her."
"But how did she...."
Sniffing mightily, the youngest Tendo turned her nose up at the portly man. "She was the one who picked him."
"She did?"
"She did. What do you have to say about that?!"
"Way to go, boy!"
"Eh?"
"It must by that old Saotome charm hitting again. Back in the day, I was quite the ladies' man, and it seems that my son is following in my footsteps."
"You've got to be joking," the middle Tendo daughter scoffed.
"Of course not. I'll have you know that I was always...."
His son elbowed him just under the ribs, shoving the wind out of him. "Ya talk too much, ya know that?"
"Well, that was one way to shut him up," Akane murmured, her low tones colored by approval.
"Children," Nabiki sighed.
"Oh my," Kasumi commented as she returned with a full tray. "Is something wrong with Mister Saotome?"
"He'll be fine," her husband answered with a smile, while:
