Coupled Union - Yamato Nadeshiko: On the Alleged Attraction Between Cold Water and Jusenkyo Cursed Individuals [Episode 152717]

by Kwakerjak

When Jusenkyo curses are spoken of, one finds that the subject of “water attraction” is often brought up. This is the theory that when one has a Jusenkyo curse, one is more likely to be splashed with cold water, particularly if one is in a position where the activation of one’s curse leaves one in a socially awkward position. There is sharp debate over whether this is true, or whether it only seems to be true. Observers who hold to the latter opinion will usually make the very reasonable counterargument that the incidence of being hit with cold water does not increase after acquiring a Jusenkyo curse, but rather, one does not notice how often one comes into contact with cold water until the Jusenkyo curse is acquired. If one were to make a detailed study of the frequency with which someone gets hit with cold water before and after being cursed, this ridiculous notion would surely wither away in the face of empirical evidence (unfortunately, to date no one has stepped forward to willingly receive a Jusenkyo curse in the name of science).

Those persons who believe in the “attraction” theory will then usually point out that those who actually have a curse often report being physically drawn to cold water. Many of them (and Ranma Saotome is among this group) have been recorded as claiming that “cold water sucks.” Of course, it is patently obvious that this is merely the misappropriation of an idiom, better suited for a stale pun than for the serious academic study of curses.

Of course, if Ranma did in fact hold this (no doubt erroneous) belief, it could very easily explain why the pigtailed martial artist felt little more than resignation when he saw his wife enter the room with a full tray of drinks. Somehow, he just knew that a significant amount of the liquid would end up on his person, (which would shortly become her person) and then his secret would be exposed before he had a chance to make sure that those present were actually prepared to receive this admittedly bizarre piece of information.

He always got splashed before he was ready.

Kasumi knew the Tendo home like the back of her hand; she had spent countless hours cleaning every nook and cranny throughout the compound, and she could probably navigate her way through it blindfolded with almost no trouble. However, she was apparently distracted by the return of her beloved, since that is the only logical explanation for her uncharacteristic forgetfulness with regards to a particular floorboard in the family room that was ever-so-slightly uneven. Thus, the others in the room were treated to the sight of the normally graceful Kasumi taking a tumble, throwing the drinks up in the air in the process.

Ranma, being the good-natured person that he was, moved to assist his wife, which unfortunately put him directly in line with the drinks’ trajectory. He didn’t notice this until it was too late.

The curse activated, leaving Akane and Nabiki speechless, and causing the Tendo patriarch to faint outright.

Ranma turned to his sisters-in-law. “Look, I can explain…” But the explanation was not forthcoming, as it was interrupted by a small groan from the floor.

Kasumi got up, determined to recover from her spill as soon as possible; after all, her husband had almost certainly been hit by the wayward beverages. “Oh my, how clumsy of me. Let me get you a towel, Ran… ma…” She stared at the place where her husband was supposed to be seated, but instead she saw a petite (though quite busty for her frame) redhead with the same hairstyle and clothing as the martial artist referred to above. She stared at the girl the girl for several long seconds before she swallowed and finished her sentence, turning it into a question: “-kun?”

The redhead blushed brightly and stared at the floor. “Yeah, it’s me. Sorry about this.”

You know, maybe there is something to this “Jusenkyo curses attract water” thing after all.
