For Misato, this one was just relaxing.
She was sitting on a bench looking at a large fountain that was situated in the center of a public square. The fountain was a series of four circular basins that were built up on a central pillar, with the smallest at the top, and the largest at the bottom. Underwater jets in the bottom one spray water into the top, and water cascaded down from the top down, almost like it was a liquid sheet.
To her, it's simplicity was rather soothing, since there weren't any sort of 'busy-ness' in watching it. It just looked pretty, sounded nice, and didn't really tax her mind at all. And after what she'd had gone through, that was a welcome refuge.
Meeting up with Ritsuko was something that she had been aware had been improbable, and certain would happen. By what she could tell, there was no way that she could have avoided it, as it was entirely possible that they could run into each other sooner or later. But that didn't change the fact that she was surprised and not expecting her former friend's reappearance. Neither did she expect that it would hurt this much, but it did, and she couldn't stop it.
Then she discovered that she had apparently been a candidate for being recruited by a major security operation. A part of her was disappointed that she'd been so easily dismissed, but the rest of her was pleased by that same fact. She had been through too much secrecy and such already to let herself get caught up in it again. What was important to her was to help protect this new world, and try to make it so that she could take care of the kids....
"Oh, that's right! I can't just leave them hanging!" she muttered to herself. Pushing herself to a standing position, she looked around for a public 'phone'. Spotting one, she made her way over to the booth, and slid into it. Putting the appropriate funds into its account, she put in the contact information for who she wanted to speak to. It didn't take too long, and she soon saw a face on the video screen that she wanted to look at. "Shinji!"
*"Misato,"* the former pilot of Unit 01 replied with a shy smile. *"How is it going?"*
"Pretty good. What about you guys?"
*"We're having a study group, though...."*
"Yeah?"
He looked a bit guilty as his mind obviously fought to not blurt out anything. *"We're trying our best, but we're taking a break. Just a small one. We'll get right back on it...."*
"I see.... It is expected that kids your age would want to goof off."
*"We're not...."*
"Don't worry about it. You guys deserve it. In fact, I want you to really take a break from all those books," she told him with a grin.
*"Oh?"*
"It's dinner time, and I want you guys to join me for a bit to eat."
*"You do?"*
"Sure thing!"
*"But leaving...."* Shinji began.
"Don't leave them. The more the merrier, I say."
*"Uhh.... Okay...."
"Good! I'll meet you down at...."
*"The usual?"*
"The usual," she sighed, and knew that it was all her finances could take at the moment. "See you then."
*"'Bye."*
Satisfied, Misato hung up, and nodded to herself. Now she could both spend some time with 'her' kids, and be able to inform them as to her new job. She wasn't too certain if she wanted to mention the meeting that she'd had with a certain fake blonde, but she did want them to know where she'd be going. Abandoning them for her new post was not something that she was prepared to do.
Besides, the gurgling of her own stomach told her that dinner would be a welcome meal for her as well.
Already planning on what she was going to eat, she headed out to meet up with the kids, while:
