Anime 40,000: In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future there is only War [Episode 152323]

by PsyckoSama

For more than a hundred centuries the immortal Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth, master of Mankind by the will of the gods and ruler of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. Worshiped as a god by untold billions, he is a rotting carcass writhing in incredible psychic power and sustained by the arcane wonders of the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium of Man, for whom a thousand souls die every day to sate his hunger for the souls that sustain him. Death and Sacrifice – the stuff of which the Imperium is crafted.

To be a man in this time is to be one of untold billions. It is to live under the thumb of the cruelest, bloodiest, and most tyrannical regime ever. But despite its countless horrors, the Imperium is the lesser of many great evils. The Great Devourer, the monstrous Tyranids, come from beyond the galaxy seeking to consume all that exists to feed their endless hunger. The bestial Orks, half-crazed primitives who live only for war. The mysterious Eldar, whose actions are a mystery to all but themselves. The ancient and mysterious Necrons, who rise from tombs sealed at the dawn of creation. Worst of all though, is Chaos. They are the arch-heretics and traitors who betrayed humanity at the dawn of the Imperium. Servants of the Fell Powers, the Dark Gods of the Warp and their demonic hosts, they are nothing less than the legions of hell itsself, seeking to corrupt and conquer all of creation.

All that stands between humanity and sure death are the servants of the Emperor. The Imperial Fleet, that controls the stars. The Imperial Guard, who sweep over their foes with a tide of humanity. The Imperial Inquisition, who act as the eyes, ears, the wrath of the Emperor. The Cult of the Machine God, the protectors of the last fragments of humanity's technical know how. The Administorum, through which all knowledge flows, with scores of servants enough to outnumber the stars. The Imperial Cult, who preach the word of the Emperor and shield against heresy. And finally, the super human Space Marines, with whose might the Imperium was forged.

Even with such protectors, humanity's future is far from sure. Each year more worlds are lost. Each year the light of the Emperor grows dimmer. Each year the enemies of mankind gather like vultures as the threat of endless night presses in. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for there is no peace among the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of dark gods. In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war...

In such a world, there are as many stories-to-be as there are stars in the sky. Every one of the countless billion human lives has a tale to be told. Stories ranging from the epic heroism of the Space Marines, the grim realties of the Inquisition, the carnage of the Imperial Guard, the wonder of the Rogue Traders, to even the meaningless bragging of gangs in the Underhive.

This is the story of...
