Shinji's new day: Just A Snack.... [Episode 152593]

by Kender

Shinji rolled the candy bar in one hand, and considered what he could do. It was an interesting piece of junk food, since he doubted others would go that far with this sort of product. But at the same time, he did feel a bit hungry, since he had gone out to go food shopping. Since he was too young to drive, and even taking public transportation didn't take off all the work that it made for him. Not that he minded the task, but it was a bit of heavy work for a teenager as unathletic as him.

That made the piece of candy rather appealing at the moment. Sure, he hadn't really done the work yet, but he didn't want to get stuck with any real hunger. If he went to the store like that, he might spend more money on junk, and if he'd wanted that, he'd just let Misato buy the groceries. She might have been a good person, but she wasn't the best shopper.

So, he wanted to eat the candy, as it wasn't that important a thing to keep a hold of. The wrapper was enough to show everyone anyway, and it wouldn't go bad. Besides, he was getting interested in finding out how something with such a silly cover tasted. And the only way to find that out would be to eat it.

Knowing that he didn't have to eat all of it, and wouldn't want to if it tasted bad, he opened up the wrapper as carefully as he could, so that he didn't damage what he might want to show later. Then he broke off a piece of the bar, and opened his mouth, holding the piece ready for a moment. Blowing out a breath, he popped the candy into his mouth, and began to chew.

It actually wasn't too bad, and as he started to eat it, he felt relatively comfortable with it. Swallowing it once he'd chewed it enough, he found it to be pretty good for something that he'd just found on a whim.

The sudden dizziness that hit right then wasn't exactly what he'd expected though. All of a sudden, it felt like he wasn't able to balance himself, or even aware of how long his limbs were. Feeling that way was rather disconcerting, and he was pretty freaked out about it. Getting his footing back too a bit of work, though it did feel rather easy for some reason.

And when he looked down at himself, he got another surprise. His forearms, which had never been anything buy pale and scrawny, were now pretty toned. Shocked at seeing that his hands looked much stronger than they had been, he pulled them to his chest, which they thumped against. When that happened, he discovered that his chest was no longer just a kid's, and had some solid muscle behind it. Walking let him feel just how different his stride was, and he began to realize just how strong they were.

In one simple moment, he'd gone from being a skinny weakling to, at the very least, athletically fit.

Realizing that this was a major change he started to pat himself down to make sure that this wasn't a sign that his body wasn't about to bulge apart on him. Once he was as certain as he could be that he would be still breathing for some time to come, he tried to get his control back. For a boy who'd run away from so many conflicts, it wasn't easy, but he tried his hardest. As soon as he was able to think past his initial panic, he:
