Shinji's new day: Re-Beginning [Episode 152637]

He wasn't muscle-bound. He wasn't a giant. That said, Shinji Ikari was looking less like an anemic fourteen year old with a tendency to brood.

In fact - he more resembled the sort of giant robot pilot of an earlier age. Tall, handsome, physically fit. More a teen astronaut with a gymnastics or runner's build. Lean, taut, and stronger than you'd expect.

His clothing had changed too. He was wearing a muscle tee that left his arms mainly bare, with a pair of fairly tight jeans and what appeared to be running shoes. And why did he have a ponytail?! A kind of scrawny one, but a ponytail nonetheless. This didn't make any sense.

Shinji shook his head, trying to make sense out of this. How could a candy bar...

thooom-Thoom-THOOM

Footsteps getting closer? No, waitaminute. He recognized this.

Sure enough, helicopter gunships backed up into his field of vision - followed by the very first angel he'd fought. "No way. How'd..."

His gaze locked on his watch, which was a thick thing with a band that was two inches across and made of reinforced leather. It was the date on that watch that caused the staring - showing that this wasn't the angel had regenerated somehow - this was the very first day he'd gotten involved with NERV. Any moment now, Misato would-

SCREEECH! came a car, pulling up nearby.

The girl leaned over to look at him. "Shinji Ikari? The pictures didn't do you justice."

"Eh?" managed Shinji.
