And then he noticed Misato, as she was similar enough to be easily recognizable. But there were definitely differences, from the slightly younger appearance, to the fact that her short dress looked more like a uniform now. She even had on these low heeled boots of the same color as her dress, and the jacket seemed to fit right in with that. All in all, she actually looked more like a member of some sort of organization than she had when she'd come to pick him up the 'last time'.
"Are you just going to stare at me, or are you going to get in?" she asked.
"Oh, right. Sorry," Shinji replied as he got into the car. "I'm just a little confused at the moment."
"That's alright. Your father did say that you might be a little surprised, considering the fact that you were called out here all of a sudden."
"My father?"
"Of course. Commander Ikari knows people, and he wouldn't be able to miss something simple happening like this."
"And he just sent you out like this," he commented dully, while she drove the car.
"Exactly. Can't let his son get lost, or anything, so he sent me, Misato Katsuragi, head of the Operations Department to go out and find you."
"What's to keep you from getting lost too?"
"Me? Get lost? In this city? I wouldn't, and even if I did, we have this to guide us," Misato told him, and tapped a control on the dashboard. A panel slid open to show a screen with a map being projected onto it. "See?"
"Oh, wow...."
"Yes, a lot of things that NERV has are great, but we do have things that are actually high tech. After all, we do have a job to do."
"A job?"
"You'll see soon enough. Quickly even. Those guys from the military can't stop that thing forever, you know."
"Yeah, I know."
"Oh?"
"It's not like I have any sort of information or anything! It's just that.... Nothing that they were doing seemed to get a dent on it!" he babbled, trying not to get himself into more trouble than this strangeness seemed to do already.
"That's true. But trust me, we'll make sure that this can happen. Come on, and let's go!" she cheered.
"I can't go anywhere else. You're driving."
"Oh, yeah. Right. Well, let's get you to your father!"
"Can't wait...." he answered numbly, confused by both the changes from what he knew, and the fact that everything was restarting from the moment that he got into Tokyo-3, while:
