Shinji's new day: NERV Redeux [Episode 155284]

Shinji was taller than he had been (by nearly five inches), muscular in the manner of a gymnast and runner (his records now showed that he was a track-and-field star who'd placed third in regional contests), ponytailed and had more of a wild-untamed look to him than anything that could be described as brooding.

Misato's confusion was understandable. She'd somehow expected original-flavor Shinji. She wasn't sure WHY though. She'd seen the transcripts and knew that Shinji was an average student except that he had been very good at certain sports and had a definite talent for getting into scrapes with a certain rival.

Some things were quite the same. There was still a NERV. There was still a Gendo Ikari. Misato might be only a few years older than Shinji now, and wearing something approximating a uniform, but she was chief of Operations and still a Captain in the organization.

As the somewhat retro-looking car raced away from the "angel", Shinji was tossed a manual titled "Welcome To NERV" where he would quickly discover that NERV was actually:

• the same. (As far as an outgrowth of GEHERN, Lillith concealed in Terminal Dogma, and all the things not covered in the handbook but that he'll be introduced to shortly.)
• different. NERV was developed as part of a new science of quantum biomechanics which have produced giant robots (and possibly Shinji himself).
• very different. NERV was developed as the front line defense against a mystical/demonic enemy which nearly destroyed the Earth earlier. Now the Enemy has returned, but Earth is a little better prepared.
• VERY VERY different. Instead of Lillith, Neo Queen Serenity is hanging on a cross in Terminal Dogma.
• sorta different. NERV is essentially unchanged, as is Gehern, however the nature of the "Angels" is completely different.
• something else
