Unfortunately, that same brother was up ahead on the trail, leading her and her friends along, and was acting rather close off, hurt, and grouchy lately. She knew that attempting to have him take her into his confidence now wouldn't be as easy as it had once been, as he wasn't trusting her quite as much now. Then again, he was constantly causing her agitation as he was insistent on risking his life, and making her worry, by entering into the fight against the enemy.
On the other hand, she was totally in the dark as to why Makoto was so grumpy with her lately. After that incident at that lunch, the tall girl had been decidedly irritable, almost as if she were offended by something, but there was little that the juku student could do to find out what that was, as the other girl wouldn't really talk to her.
It was all a mess, and watching the green eyed girl walk off on the other side of the group, she sighed about what was happening. As far as she could tell, there was something decidedly wrong going on, but the only thing that she knew for sure was that her brother was now involving himself with their Senshi problems. Yet, that didn't seem to be why her friend was acting almost distant now.
"You know, this isn't good," Rei murmured, making the blue haired girl jump. "Things can't go on like this."
Ami pressed her lips together. "I know, but Ranma won't change his mind...."
"I wasn't talking about that. It's you, that has to work on some things."
"What are you.... You're talking about Mako-chan, aren't you?"
"Of course I am. We can't just pretend that it isn't happening. I mean, look at Usagi," the shrine priestess replied, nodding towards the blond in question.
"I know," the other girl said softly, looking towards where Usagi was looking rather worn from the trek, but wasn't complaining as much as one would expect.
"Then why don't you do something about it?"
"What can I do? I'm not sure where to turn next."
"You aren't?"
"Not really. I mean, to do that, I'd need to know where I'd been, and I don't have the map...." Ami answered, and was surprised when she was interrupted.
"There is no 'map', no book, and no explanations. No one gets any, and we don't just wait for one to come to us."
"But what can I...."
"Look at what you're saying, and think about it!" Rei hissed, sounding almost like a canister that was about to explode. "It's not about just you, as there are two or more people in a conversation."
"I know that, but I...."
"Just consider what I said, and stop thinking like.... Just think about what you said means, okay?"
Had she been given the chance, Ami would have agreed to do what she'd been asked to. However, the raven haired girl had already moved off, and seemed to have grown irritated by the conversation. That was exactly what she feared, as she recognized the fact that she was causing discord among her friends, not that she was aiming to do so. But, it seemed that she was getting that exact result, as she was managing to botch things, and she didn't know why. Perhaps that was why she had always sought a refuge in books, since they didn't tease, hurt, or attack her. Her friends would never do that, but something that she was doing was driving them away from her.
"We're here!" Ranma called out, and dropped his pack to the ground.
Looking around, Ami saw a field that was relatively close to a source of water, but not a sign of real civilization anywhere. "This is it?!"
"Well, sorry if it is not to your liking," Makoto muttered. "But training in the Art isn't a simple thing. To get stronger, you have to place a burden on yourselves."
"Like camping out instead of staying at a hotel," Ranma put in.
"Exactly. Now, if this is not how you think things should be done, go figure out how it could be, and write it down. The rest of us'll be trying to get some work done."
Letting her shoulders slump, Ami subsided, and turned to unpacking her own pack, remembering that she'd know that they'd planned, along with the camping out. She'd just hoped for a nicer spot than this. Yet, that was what she had to work with, while:
