"So you're some 'comic cube'?" asked Ranma, facing a glowing blue cube that was rotating in mid-air.
Not quite. I am known by many names, but that is not one of them. Maybe 'Crossover Cube' would work better.
Setsuna twitched.
"I don't get it," said Ranma. "You said you was here to fix something?"
Yes, that's right. You see someone keeps trying to do something that would have caused this area of space/time to collapse - killing you and everyone on Earth.
"Oh, that's bad," said Ranma.
It's unintended actually. She's simply trying to make sure you don't come anywhere near certain girls and eliminate the possibility of you getting a life. Unfortunately, she's using devices not intended for what she's doing with them and doesn't completely understand their operation herself.
"It ain't Akane cooking something is it?" asked Ranma.
Errr. No.
"Oh, that's good," said Ranma, relieved.
Not completely her fault, you understand. Because she's linked so strongly with the devices she's operating, her obsession is having a feedback effect so that the longer she tries - the more obsessed she gets. Another problem is the fates of these girls are indeed tangled up with your own.
"Oh, that's bad," said Ranma, thinking of red threads and such.
My efforts are basically a sort of 'safety valve' shunting aside energy so that it doesn't explode. Rather like the valve on a pressure cooker that keeps it from blowing up when it is heated.
"Oh, that's good," said Ranma, remembering an incident with Akane, rice, pressure cooker, high heat, and dishwasher detergent.
Of course, because I AM a 'crossover cube' - while I have a great deal of power - it is limited in certain ways. The rebuilding timelines always carry crossover elements, and because your fate and theirs are tangled - at least two of those elements will be yourself and one or more of those girls.
"Oh, that's bad," said Ranma.
Not entirely.
"Oh, that's good," said Ranma.
Yet the instigator of this keeps trying for pure, which without my interference would have ended up with the local space compressed to the size of a baseball and an average temperature of about five million Kelvin.
"Oh, that's bad," said Ranma, thinking that sounded hot.
Yes. It certainly would be. However, I believe I have found a solution. The next time she switches anything, I will use the energies unleashed and a particular crossover line (because I AM a safety valve related to multiple universe mergers) to grant you a wish.
"Oh, that's good," said Ranma.
Yes. Since the whole problem started with a wish and someone overreacting to it, all you have to do is come up with a second wish.
"Oh that's bad," said Setsuna.
"I thought that was my line," said Ranma, frowning. Just when he'd gotten the hang of this too. "Who're you?"
This is the order-obsessed individual who keeps trying to destroy the Earth to prevent you from meeting any of these girls.
"Damn, and I thought Akane overreacts," said Ranma, staring at the tall gal.
