"Lina, are you sure it was wise to leave Gourry alone like that?" Amelia asked.
"You're almost out of magical strength and with my spells sealed, I'm a liability," Lina shot back, wincing at her own words.
"Well, that makes things easier," a voice came from in front of them.
Lina and Amelia stopped, as they saw an old man step out from the shadows. Lina rolled her eyes heavenward.
"Diol, you're working with Mazenda and the others? I hoped to see the last of you when I handed you over to the authorities," Lina spat.
"I have no idea who Mazenda is. I'm working for someone else," Diol calmly replied.
Amelia shuffled closer to Lina. "Who is that old man?"
"His name is Diol. He specializes in chimera creation. The last time we met, he was trying to turn me into a really stupid looking chimera. I beat him up and turned him in for a reward."
Diol nodded. "True. However, I was hired by someone to turn you into a chimera, according to her specifications."
Amelia had climbed to the top of a tree and started a speech. "Foul villain, do you think you can just kidnap someone and change them without their permission. Get ready to face the truly righteousness of justice."
Amelia jumped down and charged towards Diol. The old chimera maker pulled out a clay orb and tossed at a tree close to Amelia and Lina. A reddish dust blew forth from the clay missile.
"Amelia, cover your mouth. It's knock-out----pow....," Lina got out before she collapsed to the ground.
Amelia tried covering her mouth, but she was too late. After the two girls had passed out, the gray robed woman who was Diol's employer joined him. She carefully picked Lina up and motioned for Diol to get Amelia.
"Soon, everything will be all right," the woman muttered. "How long will the sleep powder last?"
"About six hours," Diol replied, as he picked up Amelia.
"Can you transform Lina in that amount of time?"
"Sure," Diol said. "Everything is all set up and ready to go. We just needed Lina."
"Then let's hurry back. Once she has been changed, then I can begin the next part of my plan."
"As Diol followed his mysterious employer, he looked down at Amelia. "What about this girl?"
"Nothing. We're just bringing her along to keep her safe from whoever Mazenda is."

Lina woke up with a slightly foggy head. She looked down at herself and saw she was wearing a strange outfit that covered her arms completely, but left her legs bare. There was something odd about her skin that she couldn't quite place.
"What happened?"
Lina's thought went back to the previous night and she recalled Diol. That thought sent her bolting upright and heading for the nearest mirror. Lina noticed that her hair was a bright and vivid orange that sparkled in the light. Her eyes also had an odd sparkle to them, but she put that to the side and looked around and spotted a note. She picked it up and read the note.
Lina Inverse,
By the time you read this note, Diol will have succeeded in turning you into a super chimera. Your magical powers will have increased, but I am not sure if you can cast certain spells. I don't know if the seal is still blocking you or not. You should have other powers as well. You'll have to figure them out on your own.
As to your possessions, everything save your clothes is in a trunk next to the foot of your bed. The clothes made a nice bonfire.
Diol and I have left the area before you woke up. Turning you into a chimera was the first part of my plan. Your friend is locked up in the room next to you.
We will meet again.
PS: I figure you have about an hour after you wake up before the bandits arrive. Do me proud.
Lina crumpled the note and saw the chest and opened it. She saw all of her possessions and a couple bags. Lina snarled and shoved her belongings into the bags, taking time enough to strap on her sword.
"You knock me out, turn me into a chimera, and then torch my clothes. Who are you?" Lina muttered and shook her head. "I'll figure out who you are later. Right now, I've got to deal with Mazenda and find Gourry."
For a second, Lina felt a momentary wave of dizziness. She shrugged it off and quickly freed Amelia. _______________________________________________________________________
Riding on a raft down a river, Diol and his employer were calmly sipping some fruit juice.
"Why did you just have me turn Lina into that chimera and run?" Diol asked.
The woman muttered something and a greenish bolt of energy leapt from her fingertips. The spell fizzled out before it went too far. The woman nodded and turned back to Diol.
"It's part of my master plan."
Diol shook his head and stated, "This plan makes no sense. Lina Inverse is now a pissed off chimera with loads of power. You didn't have me put in any control spells, so she just got a free boost in her power."
"Revenge wasn't my ultimate goal. Something else was. This was just one step in that direction."
Diol scrunched up his face in confusion. "I'm lost."
