So, he walked, with his shoulders slumped as much as they could be, and headed outside. Once there, he saw his fiancee pausing in her training session in the Art, and he took advantage of that. Grabbing her by the arm, he pulled her back into the house, and didn't stop until he'd brought her back where he had started from.
"Hey, hey, HEY!" Akane growled. "What do you think that you are doing?!"
"Something has happened," Kasumi murmured.
"What has?"
"Pop was right," Ranma told her.
"Your father? Since when?"
"'Since' always."
"Really? In what?"
"In whether or not you and I would get married."
"WHAT?!"
"She told us that was the case," her sister replied. "And we have no reason to disbelieve her."
"Why would you think that way of someone who is dressed up like Cutey Honey?!"
"Because she is Cutey Honey."
"Huh?"
Wordlessly, the elder girl held up a copy of the series in question to show the similarities.
"But...."
Honey sighed heavily. "I came from another world and was brought here by a company which repaired and 'sold' me so that I could have a new life. But where I came from, all this was an animated series and a manga series. And in it, you and Ranma were the only real couple, according to the author."
"I was in it?"
"Yeah... but...."
"What?" the youngest Tendo asked warily. "I wasn't some sort of 'damsel in distress' type, was I?"
"Only some times."
"You've got to be kidding me. What about the other 'times'?"
"Well, in them, you spent a lot of time either trying to connect with and help Ranma, blaming him for something that he didn't do, or getting into arguments and fights with other people. Oh, and you tended to be unaware of some things. You were basically prideful, angry, with an occasional show of sweetness, which was a lot of times pointed at the wrong person. That usually came into play because you would think that you were in the right, and would act first, and ask questions later, no matter the situation."
"And I'm supposed to, when all is said and done, just simply roll over and marry him, right?"
"That was what was what the manga writer said, Akane," Ranma reminded her.
"Are you guys idiots?!"
"Huh?!" chorused the other three.
Akane put her fists on her hips and tried not to feel guilty about insulting her sister. "If I'm going to marry you Ranma, it'll be by my choice, and not your fathers, or some writer in another world!"
"'If'?" Kasumi parroted.
"Never mind how I said things. Listen to what I'm saying, and stop feeling sorry for yourselves! Or are you going to let a manga determine your lives!"
"But, it's exactly how things are...."
"That doesn't matter, Kasumi. So what if it follows how our lives are. Was that writer directly writing what's happening here and now? Of course not! Who says that we have to follow what someone in another universe says!"
"Hey...." the pigtailed boy murmured. "You're right...."
"Of course I am. And you? 'Honey'? If you are the real thing, shouldn't you be in another world, fighting bad guys or something?"
"Actually... Yes, I should," Honey admitted.
"Exactly! This isn't just a series of pictures on a page, or on a screen. We don't have to do whatever someone else says."
"Still...." her fiance sighed.
"Are you still going to hold that 'series' up as the only way that our lives can go?!"
"It's not that. Ya see.... It was right about some things, like me being stuck in a rut. I mean, think 'bout it. I fight mostly the same people, and get hit with something strange almost like clockwork. D'ya realize how often that happens?"
"And I'm not certain that just standing around, cleaning and cooking dinner is what I want for the rest of my life," Kasumi put in.
"Then why follow it?! It's really a simple thing. You think that I would want to be some nasty... girl, who's only nice to the wrong people."
"Certainly not."
"But that is exactly what you'd suggest that I be that way, if I follow that manga. Well, I'm not about to let some book that I've never seen dictate my life to me. What about you two?"
"I agree."
"Me too," Ranma put in.
"Good. And now maybe we can think of what we can do to prevent ourselves from being dropped into having things go that way."
Blinking slightly, Honey watched as the three natives turned their attentions to figuring out ways to change the path that the manga had shown, while:
