Diol bit his lower lip, as he looked to his employer. "Er. I need something to call you."
"I'm not giving you my real name. Nali will do," the woman said.
"Okay, Miss Nali. You said turning Lina Inverse into that chimera was the first part of your plan. What is the second part?"
Nali pulled her hood down further over her face and laughed softly. "Lina might have broken my religious group up, but there are a few who still believe. We are going to meet them. I corrected what was wrong and soon things will proceed as they were supposed to."
Diol whispered to himself, "How can turning Lina Inverse into a chimera correct what was wrong?"
Nali and Diol approached a rickety group of log buildings. The buildings were arranged in a rough circle around a wooden stage. Nali crossed her arms and looked towards the West. A group of about thirty bandits was heading in the direction of the camp.
"This time, that bandit group is going to be in for the shock of their lives," Nali said, as she headed up onto the stage.
Out of the wooden shacks came a small group of warriors with pointed weapons. Nali laughed, as she watched the bandits head towards the camp. Diol watched as Nali pointed at the bandits and chanted some strange spell. A blast of green light shot from Nali's finger. As soon the bolt of light made it to the center of the bandit group, it stopped and then shot rays of light in a sort of spider-web pattern. Those bandits not hit by the light rays were shaken by the strange spell and were easy pickings for Nali's cult.
Nali raised her hands. "My friends, we used to be laughed at. No more. That is one of the spells of our goddess. Soon, we shall be able to call upon her power to do more than that. She is still weak and needs our devotion and the spread of her worship. Ven Arthik, our goddess does not have the knowledge of the Resurrection spell."
A man dressed in merchant robes brought his fist to his chest and bowed. "I shall be happy to take on that quest. I have found an old book that we can place in her path."
Nali nodded before continuing. "For now, keep the use of spells that call upon her down to a minimum. We do not want the unworthy gods to strike her down while she is gaining her strength. Do your best to spread her worship around."
The other cultists nodded and quickly got ready. Nali led Diol to a large log cabin.
"Merchants, store owners, and wagonneers all. They joined this group for protection," Nali said softly. "The second part of my plan has gone into action."
"I don't understand," Diol said.
Nali smiled, even though Diol couldn't see it. "What is orihalcum?"
"Huh?"
"Orihalcum is the congealed blood, teeth, and nails of the Flare Dragon Cephied. The blood came from the Dark Lord Shabranigdo," Nali explained in a humorous voice.
Diol paled dramatically and whispered in a tiny voice, "What?"
"Lina Inverse is now one-third human, one-third Mazoku, and one-third Shinzoku.. Lina broke up the original group by pointing out that she was only human. I fixed that with your help. She is now the goddess she was always meant to be," Nali said, laughing. "That spell I cast was the first spell that can call upon her."
Nali held up a book and said, "While on my quest to fix that porblem, I created a bunch of spells that will call upon our goddess."
"What have I done?" Diol whispered to himself.
Nali ignored Diol and looked at a wall map of the lands inside the Mazoku barrier. She placed a finger on a small town nearby.
"Yes, this town will do. A lot of caravans do pass through it and can act as a nexus to spread worship."
Nali moved away from the map and pulled out a small figurine of Lina Inverse that had Lina in the red and yellow leotard and placed it on a shelf along one wall. She clasped both hands and bowed to the statue.
Diol's voice cracked, as he asked, "What is with that outfit?"
"Lina Inverse is a goddess. Is that not appropriate clothing for a goddess? "
Diol remained quiet, as he thought, 'She's nuts and now Lina is far stronger than I ever imagined.'
