Slayers Project L: Shadows [Episode 153478]

by Disruptor

While disguised as an ordinary girl, Lina thought about the outfit she was wearing under the girly dress. It was a one-piece yellow leotard with long red sleeves and had no legs. White stripes covered the shoulders and white stripes acted as edges to where her legs came out of the leotard. The yellow slippers that came with the outfit were supple enough to be worn inside other footwear.

'I can't just toss this outfit away. There is too much protective magic on it,' Lina thought. 'I might want to roll up the sleeves, when I put on my normal clothes.'

Lina stopped musing about the outfit when she felt the presence of hostile forces in the forest in front of her. Stopping, she stared into the woods and thought.

'This new body of mine should have some powers. If there was some way to avoid those cultists... She moved to hide in the shadow of a tree, or at least she tried to. As soon as she stepped into the tree's shadow, she tripped and fell flat on her face.

'Great, just great! What did I trip over?' Lina thought, as she looked around.

What she saw surprised her. She was in a large open area that was bathed in a grayish light. Slits of light hovered in the air around her. Looking at one of the slits, she saw a large bandit brandishing a sword and wearing a mask. Lina gulped and was about to chant a spell when she noticed something.

'He can't see me,' Lina thought, as she walked up to the slit of light.

She snapped her fingers in front of the bandit's face and breathed a sigh of relief. She checked out each slit of light. It eventually dawned on her that she was looking through the shadows that trees and bushes were casting. She practiced a bit on the way and found that if she concentrated, she could hear what was on the other side of the slit of light.

"Cute. Real cute. I can enter a plane that can be accessed by shadows that are being cast," Lina muttered with a smile on her face. "This should make infiltrating the coliseum real easy."

Lina found an area that there were no shadows being cast and quickly changed out of the girly dress and put on a replica of the outfit she wore when she was travelling around with Naga. Dodging the slits of light, Lina quickly headed towards the meeting area of the Cult of Shabranigdo. While Lina hurried, she thought about her newfound power.

'Mazoku and Shinzoku can travel to the Astral Plane. It might look like they are using shadows to travel, but that's just a mode of access. This is definitely not the Astral Plane. This is similar to using the Black Crystal to travel through shadows, but that was more like teleportation. This is something new.'

Lina sighed and checked a rapidly fading slit of light. She had a brief moment of panic when she saw the sun on the horizon and was about to jump through the slit, when she pulled back.

'It's only for the night. When the sun comes up, I should be able to get out of here. Heck, the cultists will probably have plenty of areas for me to exit via torchlight.'

With that thought, Lina made her way to the coliseum and saw irregular patches of light hovering in different areas. She looked up at a small hole. While her mind was on that, she approached the light. To Lina's eyes, it looked like the light was lowering.

'Let's see what's going on,' Lina thought, as she looked through the hole.

The first thing she noticed was the torch that was directly in front of the hole. Lina took a better look at the hold and noticed it was in the same shape as the metal fencing around the torch. The next thing she noticed was that the torch was very high up on a wall.

'Eep! What?' Lina thought, as she looked down at her feet.

Beneath her were other holes of light. Taking a calming breath, she placed her feet down, as if she was walking down stairs. She slowly descended and approached another shadow hole. She saw two very thin streaks of light that were quickly fading. She looked out of the streaks of light and saw the back of the coliseum.

'Must be the empty torch holders in the center of the coliseum,' Lina thought.

Lina sighed, as the thin strips of light vanished. Looking around, she checked each of the remaining light slits. When she checked out a cross-shaped shadow being cast by a torch, she made a pleasant discovery. She had found Amelia. The princess of Seyruun was chanting a light spell and not having much luck in casting the spell.

'Mazenda must have sealed her powers as well. I need to know what the cult is up to, before I rescue Amelia. I also hope that Xellos gets rid of Mazenda soon.'

Lina glanced around at the almost barren emptiness she was in and shook her head.

'I guess I should get some sleep. Tomorrow morning, I head to Mane and buy some food. This is the ultimate hiding spot.'

Lina rubbed her head, as she felt a bit of weakness.

'I must be more tired than I thought.'
