What they had available wasn't exactly a gourmet meal, but it was enough for Shinji at the moment. Getting to eat something was fine by him, as he was finding it to be pretty good. Of course, he would have liked to have something a bit more substantial than just crackers and water, but things were going rather nicely, and he didn't want to rock the boat.

And things were a bit... odd already, and he wasn't sure that asking questions was what he wanted to do at the moment.

"How is it?" Maya asked, leaning forward in a way that unintentionally gave him an interesting look at how 'developed' she was.

He blushed slightly, and ducked his head. "It's fine."

"It is? Because I'm not quite happy with them. But what can you do? We can't find a really good source of food here."

"At least this is something."

"Not much of it though," Asuka observed.

"That's true enough, but what could we do?" the mousegirl asked. "A lot of the food we had in here was expired."

"Which I'll go on record as saying sucks."

Misato grinned. "Well, there is a good side on this."

"What's that?"

"We can make sure that he gets a really good meal when we get out of here. And I know some good spots to get a bite to eat."

"You know," Ritsuko purred, "I have some things that he can bite."

The others just stared at her.

Not that it phased the catgirl, as she just gave a small smile.


No one really paid attention to what the flocks of ravens and crows were doing. People expected birds to be in the sky, and seeing a bunch of them didn't matter. Even when there were less and less of them in the sky, there didn't seem to be anything to worry about, as they could have flown to go in a different direction.

But they had not done so. Rather, the birds were flying literally into each other, but instead of crashing to the ground, they were sort of... congealing, as their bodies squashed and flexed in a ball until a larger creature came out of it. Slowly, the flocks started to come together, making the end creature bigger and stronger.

It was not merely a big bird, though. The beak grew larger and gained a sharp edge, much of which time it had open in large screams. A single downbeat from its wings sent all sorts of material flying, and its body took on all sorts of little things that made it look less like a bunch of birds, and more like a monster.
