Asuka watched Shinji absently devour the so called meal Misato had made for him that morning as she approached him. She was going to show a bit of thigh and play the tease to him and his fellow stooges, in preparation for inquiring about his comments about the classmates being potentials. This made little sense to her, since she was summoned all the way from Germany. Maybe it was because I was already in synchronism with my EVA. Ah. What's this-mein Gott in Himmel! Asuka's question was derailed along with her social impulses as she saw herself completely outdone by the least likely of individuals.
Striding to Shinji and the boys with utter assurance, Rei Ayanami had her school skirt and blouse on. The blouse was completely open, and aside from those pieces of clothing she seemed quite naked at first glance. Closer examination showed small hookups of the sort you attach computer leads into over the locations of the nipples, over the groin's center of interest, and at the back of the neck just beneath the skull itself. her skin was actually covered by a flesh tone bodysuit so matched to her own pale coloration that Rei seemed quite unclad.
Rei came up to the four students and saluted. "Major Rei Ayanami reporting." Her tone was brisk as a official's, and she looked Shinji right in the eye, looking neither left nor right.
As Asuka twitched, Shinji clapped lightly. "Very well played. Be sure to wear the expected clothing over your 'Shell', and you should be able to stay in character correctly." While the other boys groaned, Rei buttoned up her blouse and primped in a precise fashion. Asuka was about to shout of course, so Shinji interrupted. "The bodysuit and attitude, dear Pilot Girl, are part of Miss Ayanami's role as Major Makoto Kusanagi, of national fame from the groundbreaking anime and manga Ghost In The Shell."
Rei smoothly went on, "Major Kusanagi was in a very disabling accident as a child and placed into a full Shell, a cyborg body supporting her living brain. As her brain developed, it was further supported in turn, while her Shell body was upgraded and made to seem the proper age. She grew into a cyborg woman and rose through the ranks of the military, earning her position in a squad meant specifically to combat technological crimes and cyborg threats."
Asuka blinked at this change in behavior in Rei before she flushed and glared at Shinji. After Shinji remembered to have the other character actor go 'at ease', Langley spoke firmly without being aware of just how bitter her tone was. "I guess you really got what you want."
Shinji reminded himself to stand firm, as this feeling of challenge and inadequacy was the only way he felt Asuka would wear her own costume on the night of the party. He was aware it was working, as the next sentence showed.
"I know it's going to be something I will not like, Shinji, but why in Himmel do you call me Pilot girl? You aren't wearing a Chinese dress, you know." Asuka did know of one or two of the most famous anime, it seemed.
Shinji's smirk widened as another piece fell into place, aided and abetted by Rei's reply. "Pilot Ikari's term for you has nothing to do with Ranma Saotome's Chinese 'wife', Pilot Langley. Rather he is again staying in role as Alucard. Alucard challenged his fledgling vampire 'child' to earn back her name by never using it himself, merely calling her by role; the 'police girl'. I am certain when you reach what is expected or Pilot Ikari's role as Alucard ends he will call you by name, should that be your wish."
Asuka just stared. "That's it. I am sure you're just being a pervert, and I'm doing the research to prove it!" Asuka strode to the open computer lab to research anime and manga, taking her lunch with her.
Rei turned back to Shinji. "Pilot Ikari, it was reported to me that you believe the entire class to be potential Pilots, and they are the appropriate age. Why, then, did they request Pilot Langley?"
Shinji knew Section 9 agents watched over him by now, given the way he dressed and acted, but he felt secure in answering. "A few reasons, all perfectly sensible. First, given our difficulties with only two EVA on hand, it was evident another was needed. The pilot for it coming along only made sense, especially as the attacks are evidently targeting here." At her nod, he continued. "Secondly, Asuka's scholastic aptitude is very good, and she was going ahead of her class in Germany, out of the company of fellow potentials. This was corrected due to the larger body of advanced students of her age here in Tokyo-3."
After that, they ate lunch. The boys were dumbstruck by the calm answering of questions they had not dared ask. They were also very interested in Rei's body, so their silence throughout was not hard to understand. Shinji calmly handed the Section 9 man waiting in concealment a bundle on the way back into the building. "Give this to Fuyutsuki."
The rest of the day proceeded smoothly. As there were no obvious interruptions, Shinji felt his shit-heel father was contemplating the changes in his son, or merely wished to acquire the more confident Shinji after school. Shinji's newfound bodily excellence was controllable, so Shinji was able to merely perform very well at sports and the like without totally humiliating any of his classmates.
