If you control space, you can control time. Through the opposite isn't true, you can't control space if you can control time.
In ancient times, it was the race of the Walkers, explorers and scientists, who started to explore the world around them. They discovered parallel spaces, like Jump Space and Thirdspace and an unlimited number of parallel spaces like their own.
They discovered others like themselves and traded. In one of those trades, the brought an artifact into another space, a Guardian of Forever, an artifact that had the means to control time. Due to an unfortunate incident, they lost it and the Guardian of Forever stranded in that space.
Later it was discovered by an ancient civilization, who recognized it for what it was and how dangerous it could be if it fell into the wrong hands. They called it the Time Gate and appointed a Guardian for it. The Time Gate recognized it and appointed minor control over time to its Guardian and hid itself sideways in time, so that only its Guardian could reach it.
Eventually the civilization that had found the Time Gate, perished and gave birth to a civilization that was called the Silver Millennium. The leaders of the Silver Millennium were less curious about the Time Gate, but the Guardian remained, through she used her powers to aide the Queen of the Silver Millennium. But even than she wasn't able to prevent the fall of the Silver Millennium, as the Time Gate prevented her to see what would happen.
But the Guardian was mislead and tried to reinstate her order. She would need millennia to do this, but in the end she would be successful.
Only the Time Gate didn't want to help her. It prevented her to see things she would need to change to bring about her dream of Crystal Tokyo, home of the last humans on a freezing planet Earth. But not only that, it brought about changes on its own. Changes that were outside of time and outside the domain it controlled.
Space was changed and with it time changed. People from other spaces were allowed to change this space and time.
Most of the changes that were made, originated from a single person. Marcel Stone, a man with a dream and a vision. A slightly insane man, who found the early 30s of the twentieth century to be the time that was perfect for him to change.
He appeared all over the planet, in the disguise of many different people, influencing governments and people. He handed out technologies that were advanced, but easy to reproduce with the technology available.
He introduced semiconductors and microcircuits decades before they were discovered. He introduced anti-gravity systems that could be powered by normal diesel generators. And he introduced physical theories while posing as friends of Einstein, Fermi, Heisenberg, Schwarzschild and many more.
But there was an even greater change he introduced. It was something he had picked up in another space, called RIFTS Earth, a technology that allowed to create intelligent human-animal hybrids. But while his version could be build with the technology of the 30s of the twentieth century, it was far more advanced than the original version, capable of creating very intelligent beings.
This was his dream. He wanted every world to have these animal-human hybrids.
He introduced this technology and it was used. By the year 1937 every major nation on Earth started to create their own hybrids with superhuman abilities as military troops. The Third Reich being the ones who produced more than any other nation.
By the time the Second World War started, half of the armed Forces of the Third Reich consisted of hybrids and in the cause of the war the number grew. It was cheaper and faster to create a new hybrid than to train a normal human soldier.
The Allied Nations countered and created more of their own hybrids.
But even with the hybrids and the new technologies, the War went like it did in many other spaces. By 1945 the Third Reich and Japan lost the War.
It left millions of hybrids without their original purpose. In times of War the Third Reich had created more than 15 million hybrids and more than eleven million survived the War. Japan had created ten million and six million survived. Russia created more than 30 million with 13 million survivors. The USA and Great Britain had created more than 20 million with 16 million survivors.
And there were more in other countries, created as shock troopers. But after the War the nations discovered that they couldn't just scrap or kill their creations. This time Germany was the great example for what happened.
Destroyed by the War, the Germans was busy to reconstruct their lives, to get away from the horrors of the Third Reich. And it wasn't only the humans, but also the hybrids. No one cared much if the person helping to rebuild a house or a factory was a hybrid and it imprinted itself into the next generation.
Western Germany grew into an ally for the Western Allies and with them came the hybrids, with equal rights anchored in the constitution, the 'Grundgesetz'. The Western Allies and Japan followed the German example, slowly, but they did.
Most thought that the hybrids would die out, but they hadn't been created to be sterile. They grew as part of society.
Russia followed a similar way. Through Stalin continued to create hybrids, half of them were put into use as workers and farmers, especially in Siberia, where it was harder for humans to survive, but where particular breeds of hybrids prospered. The rest was created as military troops.
While the hybrids became part of human life on Earth, mankind started to spread out into space, thanks to the other new technologies. They reached the moon in 1954, Mars in 1962, the outer ridges of the system in 1975.
During this time the Guardian of the Time Gate missed everything, hibernating while waiting for the time the Time Gate had showed her, a time, when the Dark Kingdom would attack Earth and her plan would slowly come to its conclusion.
Sailor Pluto didn't know how wrong she was.
