Time and Again: First a few Introductions [Episode 156878]

by AWarringer

We see the bright blue, white, brown and green globe of the planet we all know and love. Earth. Now, in 1995, its the home of 5.8 billion people, about 300 million of them being hybrids of different breeds. The largest concentrations of hybrids can be found in Europe, the US, Japan and Siberia, where Stalin had managed to get and use Mammoth DNA to create a breed of hybrids that could live and work in one of the harshest conditions on Earth.

As we look closer, our look is drawn towards the islands of Japan, populated by 126 million people, 31 million of them hybrids. Another step closer lets us focus on the area of the Toyko Bay area with 34 million people, 6 million of them being hybrids.

We continue to zoom in and notice the traffic. Its not only the traffic on the ground, but also traffic in different heights above the ground, a bit like the traffic on the New York of 'The Fifth Element', just much more organized. Holographic projections in the air show where a hover car can fly and where not as well as places where they can change traffic heights.

Getting through the thick air traffic, we notice the also thick crowds of people walking through the city, left and right from the ground traffic streets. A good number of those people being hybrids of any kind, through one has to notice that there are a higher than average amount of fox hybrids. Not really surprising, considering that the Japanese Empire created a huge number of fox hybrids during WWII for their military.

Looking closer at the people, we notice that everyone wears a high tech looking bracer of different designs and colors. This is a Personal Information Assistant, a system for the personal designed in the late seventies and now pretty much common in every of the First World nations.

We can see people surfing the International Data Network IDN with the holographic displays and keyboards of their PIAs, while other read newspapers, talked to friends over the videophone system, or just plain looked at the small LC displays for the time. There are no people with briefcases, as their PIAs were containing everything they needed for their business work, while school kinds only carried their bento boxes, their PIAs being all they needed to access the computers in school via wireless communication.

But even looking this futuristic, we notice that the entire look of Tokyo is not much different to the Tokyo in other realities in this time frame.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Usagi Tsuniko was running, again. And again she was late for school. Now and than she glanced at the display of her PIA, only to run faster. And she cursed. Cursed her twin-half brothers for being the pranksters they were.

Why half-twin brothers? Her mother died about six month after her birth in a traffic accident. A hover car had crashed directly into her as she was shopping with a friend, while her husband Keichi was with his daughter.

Keichi had been down after the death of his wife, but about two years later he had married again. His new wife, Hikaru, being a fox hybrid and not much later they showed again that the hybrids were close enough to normal humans that they could have kids. In this case twin fox hybrids as the hybrid genes were dominant.

Usagi cursed again as she looked at her PIA for the n-th time on her dash towards school and vowed that she would find out who had turned off her alarm clock. Or maybe she should get back at both of them just out of principle.

Than she stopped as she literally ran into a group of young kids, torturing a cat with a bandaged head, as she made on the the short cuts she had learned over time to get to school faster than normal, as she didn't have time to stop to meet Naru.

Her glance went towards the cat as it cowered in a corner, while two of the boys stopped to poke it with a stick, and she tried to untangle herself from the third kid. The kids glared at the elder blond haired girl before running away. The third kid only now got up and followed the others on their way towards their own school.

Usagi grumbled as she picked herself up. Than she kneeled next to the cat and reached out to pull away the bandage.

"I won't hurt you," she said with a soothing voice, school forgotten for the moment.

As the bandage came away, she glanced at a crescent moon styled bald place on the forehead of the cat. She stared at the cat for a moment, while the cat stared at the faint outline of a crescent moon showing on Usagis forehead for a moment, before dashing away.

Usagi blinked as she looked after the cat.

"Wired," she muttered and out of habit looked at the time on her PIA," Shit!"

And again she started to run towards school, hoping that she got there before the bell.
