The maker of the original called the design "Imaginos" and it was the end evolution of several different designs. Faster and stronger than a human body, more durable and resistant to several different kinds of energy, able to take environmental extremes in stride, and adaptive to the needs and desires of the cyborg himself. There was little that the finders of the Earth Kingdom or Moon Kingdom could determine of it, save that it was a Weapon. A weapon of an ancient war, whose enemies and whose methods and motives they knew nothing of.
An attempt had been made to destroy the weapon in its sleep. Power that SHOULD have been sufficient to purify the form to dust ended up leaving the still slumbering figure in a crater five miles wide.
Then it had begun stirring.
Sealed away quickly, with warnings put upon it. The weapon must not be allowed to awaken, for it frightened the heck out of both kingdoms.
Eventually discord and distrust between the two kingdoms increased. The war and battles went on, and things came down to their eventual end. And on slept the bound figure, waiting.
Except, Setsuna noted, there HAD been an effect. If the cyborg had been a monster or enchanted or subject to having a Star Seed or similar thing - the blast from the ginzuishou would have torn it apart. Instead it purified the evil from the heart of the one whose body it was. Torturous memories expunged. A soul in pain healed.
So it was an amnesiac Ranma who was named by Hotaru - 'Ryu'.
Ryu responded to the young girl who had awakened him with uncertainty and confusion. As Ranma he'd never been treated kindly. Never known love or affection. Even if he didn't remember his past now, this was all new to him in some strange and wondrous manner.
