Great Will: The Problems With Time Travel [Episode 157213]

It was simple enough as a scenario that had anyone really known the Truth, that they would have immediately realized how much sense it made.

Someone goes back into the past, the time machine or time travel mechanism becomes unavailable - and that someone is now trapped a considerable amount of time before their own birth.

The divergence in timelines was small at first, and might have just looped around and re-merged with the "parent" except for one tiny detail. The time traveller survived and continued to apply a divergence in the revealing of ideas and concepts and actual knowledge imparted long before such things would normally have been revealed.

Just writing a few phrases to indicate that "Vladimir Lenin" was a problem that should be eliminated at the first opportunity would have caused a major divergence.

Every little bit of future knowledge revealed was not passed on, but enough was that things started diverging. At first on a strictly local level, then regionally, then it just plain took off.
