Akane's Labor: Red Streak's copilot [Episode 15773]

by Kestral

In the part of this universe Akane was travelling, people tended to form one of two kinds of relationships. Not necessarily romantic relationships, mind you, but all sorts from business partners to lovers to friendships to contracts. Short periods of a day to a month, or forever. In the case of the latter their destinies were linked so that they'd run into the other unexpectedly on far-off planets or seedy spaceports parsecs from where they'd originally been.

The reasons for this were mainly that there were few people you could trust completely, and people had a tendency to meet brutal sudden ends. Whether it was jagging too close to a blackhole or being part of a deal gone wrong and getting a blaster hole through parts of your body you needed - it all worked out the same.

If you were good and competent, employers wanted to keep you around unless you had some really odious habit.

Akane had also run into in her briefing, the concept of Analogues. People who looked like someone she'd seen in movies, tv, real life, etc but had grown up in this particular universe/timeline and therefore might act completely different.

It was still a shock for her to meet her first local Analogue.

"Excuse me, are you Akane Tenso of the Red Streak?" A voice sounded behind her. "I saw your job posting and I want off this rock."

"Yeah I..." Akane turned from where she'd been watching for signs of those damn Jawas to see someone she recognized!
