The IVs in her arm and the sheer exhaustion she still felt worried her a lot more. She felt like she'd gone a few matches, much less rounds, with Herb. She grimaced and tried to stand up, looking around at her situation.
"Hey," she whispered hoarsely, trying to shout.
That started a bee-hive of activity.

"The genetics show them as human," one doctor said, exasperation filling his voice. "There's no scientific explanation for why or how they've changed."
"And some of these people appear to be much younger than their birthdates would indicate," another said. "Their isn't an old woman in the lot. I think the oldest in all of them, from a physical standpoint, is eighteen years old."
Any further discussion was put off as a nurse nearly exploded into the room.
"One of the foxes is awake!" she said excitedly.
