[Sea Route 21: Isolated Beach in the Outskirts of Pallet Town]
"What? What is it?" Ranma asked the two Pokemon.
"[Ranma? Is that you?]"
"Huh?" the Trainer answered the Ponyta eloquently.
"[Well, you smell like you now,]" stated the Rattata, as her whiskers twitched. "[Mostly human anyways.]"
"What's that supposed to mean?" the boy grumbled. He crossed his arms across his chest. "I am human. I've been saying that all along! It's you two who haven't been listening. Wait a minute-"
"[But you weren't!]" huffed Ukyou, her neck starting to hurt as she twisted her head towards her Trainer.
"-a guy again! Alright! Not a girl-"
"[Ooof!]" complained the Rattata. "[Stop squishing me, you fat filly!]"
"Here," Ranma said as he interrupted his impromptu celebration, "let me help you two get up."
The would-be Pokemon Trainer grabbed the Ponyta by her rear fetlocks again and wasn't burned this time. After stopping their kicking, he was able to move closer to her hindquarters.
"[What are you doing, Ranma!]" Ukyou cried out. More weight was being put her neck and face as her rear was raised higher. "[This is no way to treat a lady!]"
Ranma ignored her as he draped her rear legs over one shoulder. He reached around the barrel of her body with his arms and sought a grip.
"[Watch where you're putting your feet, Saotome!]" snapped Nabiki. Her Trainer ignored her, too. As long as he didn't actually step on her, he was fine where he was standing.
"Alright," mumbled Ranma, "when I lift Ukyou up a bit, see if you can make your way free, Nabiki."
"[You think you're strong enough to pick her fat butt up?]" quipped the Rattata.
"[I am not fat!]"
"Settle down!"
The two Pokemon relented but glared at each other. There would be a reckoning, but not at the moment.
"Alright, here we go."
Ranma braced his legs on the cold sand, the afternoon sun low in the sky insufficient in overcoming the coolness of the nearby sea. His arms locked in place, he slowly but surely raised the weight of the Ponyta off of the Rattata.
As less and less of the Ponyta's heaviness pressed down on her, Nabiki started squirming to get free. The Rattta's front paws even started scooping the sand out of the way, now that she could move them, so she could dig her way out from underneath Ukyou.
"[Watch where you're throwing that sand!]"
Sorting out the Pokemon pile-up didn't take long, but the constant quarreling made it seem that way. After the two of them could stand on their own four feet, they quickly separated. The Rattata had scampered a few feet away as soon as she could get free, and the Ponyta had cantered off a few yards further in the other direction after Ranma had helped her stand.
"So," stated Ranma, in an attempt to break the silence. He had watched the two ignore each other long enough; his neck hurt from looking back and forth.
"[What are you anyways, Saotome?]" began the Rattata.
"I told you already, I'm human!" he replied, quite annoyed.
"[Never heard of a human who could evolve before.]"
"It's a curse, damn it!" Ranma angrily said. "It's my Pop's fault I got it. Cold water changes me to a girl, a human girl, and hot water changes me back to a guy." He paused for a bit, as he thought back to what happened earlier. "The blue hair and the red was new though."
"[Honey,]" interrupted the Ponyta, "[are you sure you don't turn into a Pokemon?]"
"Of course, I'm sure. I never even heard of Pokemon until that genie brought me here. And I got this curse when Pop and me went to China."
"[Genie? China?]" mumbled Nabiki, having never heard those words before.
"[Nothing, short stuff!]" said Ukyou, quickly trying to cover the slip-up.
"Oh, yeah," Ranma spoke up. "We never did get around to telling you about that. I keep forgetting to tell you."
The Ponyta groaned. Her Trainer had a big mouth. She'd never get rid of that pest if he doesn't shut up right now.
"Ow!" yelled Ranma, as he started hopping on one foot. "Whatcha do that for?"
The Ponyta just whickered at him affectionately then butted her head against him softly. Ranma balanced himself against her withers. His fingers were splayed below the ridge of flames flickering along the Ponyta's back, as his other hand massaged his aching foot.
"I'm never gonna understand girls."
