Not to mention that some of those females had started out male. There were jobs that the on-average lesser mass and upper body strength made problematic for women. Firefighters for example, where there was a horrendous lot of heavy equipment to be carried. In those professions, women had made inroads as technology made things lighter and more compact. Other than that though, it was fairly open. Women's rights came centuries ahead of time in those regards.
All because Ranma was dreaming with the Great Will.
Another ripple begat changes. Women had to compete for available men, and so had to have skills they could bring to the table. Even though polygamy was common, the financial ability wasn't always there. Especially in a pre-industrial setting, adding more individuals didn't always help balance the budget.
Because the women not only had to appeal to a guy, but bring useful skills to the rest of the group, training and specialization in role-groups became common.
Which is when Ranma's dream added something that definitely changed the way things were developed.
