Shinji shivered and looked cross-eyed at the vapor wafting up from his mouth. He'd been standing here for three whole minutes, he couldn't feel his toes, and...
"Can I put my clothes back on now, Ms. Akagi?"
Nearly naked. Thankfully he had on underwear, or else it wouldn't be just his toes that would freeze off. Unfortunately, that was the only thing he had on.
"Hm?"
"My clothes?"
Doctor Akagi looked up from her clipboard absentmindedly.
"Oh, yeah, sure."
He got himself covered back up in record time, and had to grab the... whatever the bed/chair thing was... to keep from staggering at the combination of returning feeling and the sense of weariness he'd been feeling the entire evening.
He'd been called in for a "routine medical exam" a couple hours after school ended.
Doctor Akagi had started off with a rather strange questionnaire, then had gone through a bunch more tests than he'd never heard of, saying NERV needed some more baseline data for the upcoming synchronization tests.
Then she had left him to take care of something or other, and hadn't gotten back until ten minutes ago. Then she'd done a more normal physical examination. He wrinkled his nose. She'd probably gone for a smoking break and gotten distracted or something -- he could smell it on her, above even the (rather nice) perfume she was wearing. It didn't smell like the cigarettes he'd smelt before -- maybe she switched brands or something. Really bad smell, though.
Or maybe his nose was just getting more sensitive. He opened his mouth to ask if something like that might be a side effect of LCL, and then closed it again. Better not to invite more tests.
Doctor Akagi caught the motion, though, and looked back up from whatever she was writing. "You wanted to ask something?"
Shinji hunted for a question. "Umm... where did you go. Before, I mean?"
Her voice was crisp, business-like -- as if he'd asked something not quite polite.
"I had to talk with... the commander."
"Oh." He morbidly wondered what his father did with his evenings. He somehow envisioned him just sitting at his desk the entire day. He probably practiced those expressions or something.
Shinji turned an uneasy laugh into a small cough.
"Umm... is there anything else?" he asked. If he was unlucky, she'd think of more tests for him, but it was an effort to keep from swaying -- he'd started feeling lethargic and weak a bit after school got out. Right now he just wanted to get back to his room and sleep.
"No, no, we're done."
He sighed in relief, and Doctor Akagi looked up and smirked.
"We'll leave the fluid samples for tomorrow, all right?"
He flinched and fled the room before she could change her mind and bring out any needles.
Ritsuko chuckled as Shinji left. Truthfully, she had finished up her notes a while ago, and was just seeing how long he'd stand there in his underwear before saying anything.
She frowned thoughtfully. While she'd been joking about the samples, it would be useful to get a full set of body samples. Blood and urine were already on file, but some lymph and spinal fluid might help to isolate some of the factors needed for effective pilots. Smirking, she made a note to buy a stick mag for tomorrow. Semen sample would be useful too -- and she'd need to get a camera for a picture of Shinji's face when she mentioned that particular item.
Ritsuko pulled out the graphs again and looked them over. He was in fairly good health -- all the pilots were, really. There were a few hormonal anomalies she'd have to keep an eye on, and she'd noticed he'd been a little dazed during the exams.
Even though she'd had a "visit", as she thought of them, earlier today... two of them actually. She'd felt restless and gone out for a smoking break, only to find herself going to visit Gendo's office again. But even so, she'd found herself enjoying the spectacle of her lover's son in next to nothing more than was really appropriate.
'Bah. Must be some kind of mid-life urge thing.'
