Great Will: Give unto Caesar [Episode 159148]

It was a case of the right person, the right time, the right place.

A thunderbolt of Jupiter himself had delivered a frightened and confused individual into the Imperial Court just as Julius Caesar had been wishing (for what seemed like the 10,000th time) that someone would give him an excuse to go do something other than listen to a lot of pompous senators who had nothing better to do than listen to themselves talk.

Or no. Roman Senators did not talk. They orated. They waxed eloquently and ad nauseum on any little detail that seemed to catch their fancy at any given point.

Julius Caesar was getting on in his years, and quite frankly was about ready to annex some territory just to have something more interesting than lice farming to do.

If he had known of them, he would have stated that listening to Senator "Ten Stone Jowls" Carvarix expound on the need for a tallow tax was perhaps on a level with Vogon poetry.

Then had come the Thunderbolt! The air itself splitting open and revealing a man of foreign appearance in the strangest of garments.

EVERYTHING about this event was fascinating, especially in light of the fact that Carvarix had become so frightened he'd lost his voice for an entire day!

Which had further heightened Caesar's good mood.

The clothes the individual bore were most strange, made of cloth woven in some entirely new method, and quite fascinating.

The aristocrats, who had been quite surly of late, seemed to have been thrown into uncertainty. In fact there was only one tiny dark spot, as far as Julius was concerned. His good friend Marcus Junius Brutus had apparently stabbed himself in the leg when the thunderbolt had struck. Well, he'd told him to be careful with that knife before.

The plans to invade Dacia and then Partha had to be put off, of course. Until this man brought before him by the gods could speak proper Latin, there was no telling what sort of augury this portended.
