Pluto was not happy. After her (very) brief chat with the Princess, she knew that she wasn’t being paranoid: something was going on. The problem was that she was still utterly confused about what was going on, and the offhand way that Usagi had referred to Sailor Saturn was just plain disturbing.
Saturn was the Senshi of Death and Rebirth—a phrase that sounded really nice in the middle of a poem, but was absolutely horrifying to witness in reality. Whenever Saturn awoke, widespread destruction always followed in her path—no exceptions. Sure, there was that “rebirth” thing as well, but that was of little comfort to the inhabitants of the civilizations Saturn plunged into chaos and disorder. The entire reason Pluto had been searching so frantically for Saturn was to make sure that she wouldn’t awaken, and she had been prepared to do whatever was necessary achieve that end—even using lethal force, if she had to.
But the Princess didn’t just speak of Saturn as though her awakening was an unfortunate neccessity—she’d implied that Saturn’s powers wouldn’t be enough to face the “horrors” she described. She had to be exaggerating—right? Surely there’s nothing out there that we can’t handle by ourselves—there’s never any real reason to allow the solar system to be at the mercy of that monstrosity and her goddamned Silence Glaive. But the Princess had seemed so sure of herself—well, as sure as a person can seem when she might have severe mental health issues. Pluto still hadn’t totally been able to come up with any other explanation for the Princess’s strange one-sided conversations; she probably would have taken steps to have her put under observation if it weren’t for the jewels she brought out of subspace—just what were they?
Speaking of which, Pluto noticed that Usagi had once again taken out a jewel, which meant that there would be yet another disquieting one-sided conversation. However, this time Pluto decided to listen closely to Usagi’s half of the “dialogue,” hoping to gain some clue as to the source of her strange behavior.
“Hotaru, where are you and is…”
Hotaru? Who’s Hotaru?
“What do you mean by that?”
“Hotaru, I’m going to wake up your younger self and send her to Rei. I think I can get the Crescent Moon Wand from Luna’s sub-space pocket without her knowing it. Until Minako arrives….”
”Wake up your younger self?” What does she mean by that? I know “Minako” is probably Venus, but… hold on…
“You keep referring to yourselves as your Senshi names and your younger selves by you human names. Why?”
”Senshi names”? She’s talking to a Senshi? But I thought this person was named Hotaru—none of the ones I’ve found have that name…. Realization came to Senshi of Time quickly, and she was not pleased with its implications. She’s talking about Saturn! And that means she actually wants to wake up that psycho! Pluto was convinced that one of two things had to be true: either the Princess didn’t know what Saturn was really capable of, or she’d gone off the deep end.
“I see. I was hoping I would meet Hotaru early and work from there, but I might have to shield her from the accident.”
Accident? Will Saturn, or Hotaru, or whoever she’s talking to be in some sort of accident? This had Pluto even more concerned—even if this “Hotaru” wasn’t Saturn, it meant that the Princess was willing to put herself in harm’s way—and she didn’t want her protectors around her.
Pluto tried to make sense of the rest of the “conversation,” but Usagi’s replies were too brief to have any useful information. It didn’t matter, though, as she she’d gleaned enough to know that she couldn’t afford not to become actively involved. She had a lot to do.
