Pearls: For Want of Bracelets [Episode 159530]

by Red Priest of the 17th Order

Straightening out the wide-brimmed straw hat she wore, Britanny looked over at her older sister, the sensual blonde genius and overall jinx to the archaeological world, Dr. Gina “Gold Digger” Diggers, with an intense stare. “Tell me again... Just why am I in my human form and trying to pass for something I’m not?”

“But Brit, you are human... Part of the time...” The Blonde said as she continued walking towards their destination. Hmm... She could see it coming up in the distance.

The tanned girl frowned a bit. “Hello, Earth to Gina! I’m NOT Human!” She shouted in a bit of a huff. “Or have you forgotten that your sister is the last werecheetah, and can do much more in her true Hybrid form than she can in this dinky little human shape?”

The currently taller blonde looked towards her younger adopted sister and sighed. “I understand that, Brit. But if you want to survive where we’re heading, then you’ll need to pass as human. I checked up on the Nieuchezu before I had Ace drop us off in China... And it seems that legends indicated them having an enemy of animal people referred to as the ‘Musk’.”

Raising an eyebrow, Britanny disbelievingly asked, “Musk?”

“Yes, the Musk Dynasty,” Gina repeated seriously, as to let her younger sister know that she wasn’t joking. “They seem to have a strong connection to the area, especially where all the ‘cursed springs’ are.”

Britanny now raised her other eyebrow. “Chinese Amazons, people called ‘Musk’, and now cursed springs!? Gina, why the HELL are we out here amongst all this? Shouldn’t we have gone home now and ENJOYED all the treasure we got from the Stairwell of Genghis Kahn?” The werecheetah pat the bag of holding she was carrying like a purse. She was very protective of the bag which was holding the vast majority of their haul, (a little having been given to Ace already for his assistance).

“It’s exactly because of that treasure that we’re here now,” Gina said to her younger sister seriously. “Remember the small gold box we got from that Mimic amongst all the other treasures inside it?”

Nodding her head, the small blonde asked, “What about it?”

“I opened it up and found a paper talking about the people living in the Bayankala Mountain range,” Gina said. “Seems it was Genghis’ private notes concerning the warriors he couldn’t defeat, and how angry he was in being used to help sire a number of their greatest warriors.”

Continuing their walk, Britanny just stared at her sister for a moment. “In English, nerd.”

Her eyebrows furrowing in annoyance, Gina blurted out, “He was pissed he got tricked into getting laid and helping a rival nation continue to thrive by contributing to the population.”

“Ooooooh...” Britanny said, finally understanding. “But what the hell does that have to do with US going to see these Amazons?”

“The Amazons WERE the ones to trick Genghis, Brit,” Gina said as she got closer to the village, the walls standing tall and sturdy. Appreciative of the architecture, Gina had to wonder if the walls were clay hardened to a smooth surface, or if they were stone and the Amazons had discovered way of a natural plaster they could make and smoothen.

Nodding her head to that, Britanny repeated, “Still doesn’t explain WHY we’re out here. Don’t tell me you want to verify the authenticity of the treasure. I mean, c’mon, Gina! IT’S FREAKING GOLD AND GEMS! It’s still worth a butt-load!”

“We’re not here for verification on Genghis’ treasures, Brit,” Gina said seriously. “I did some study and research on these people at the US Embassy we were at the past few days before we came here so I’d know exactly what we were getting into, and it all seems legit. So we’re going to see about making a trade with them for one of their treasures.”

Britanny blinked her eyes. “What treasure?”

Gina smiled. “The greatest treasure of all... A bracelet.”

“A BRACELET!?” Britanny yelled. “What, does it grant wishes or something!?’

Smirking mysteriously, Gina told her younger sister, “It’ll grant mine all right...” She let off a dark chuckle.

A sweat-drop rolling down the back of her head, Britanny wasn’t sure she wanted the answer now... But as the old saying goes about curiosity and cats, “What’s that?”

“A boyfriend,” Gina answered.

“A BOYFRIEND!?” Britanny shouted.

Gina nodded her head. “Or at least a good lay. I couldn’t find any information specifying how that bracelet worked.”

Staring at her sister, Britanny’s eye twitched irritably. “Gina, you nerd.”

Shrugging her shoulders, Gina said, “So sue me. Besides, we’re here!” She said gleefully as she saw the two huge double-doors of the main gate swung open outward. “And look! They left the main gates open!”

Britanny nodded her head as she hesitantly stayed in step with her sister. There was a lot of loud shouting and cheering going on further into the village. Maybe it was a festival?
