Gourry looked at Lina who was grabbing her shoulders and seemed to be breathing in and out heavily. He gave a sigh and shook his head.
"Lina? I know that you told me you need to follow orders or grant wishes in order not to starvve. So, I'm going to make a strange sort of wish," Gourry stated.
"What is the wish?" Lina asked in trepidation.
"I have also figured out that you are unable to answer certain questions because you don't know or physically unable to," Gourry stated.
Lina grimaced at that statement.
"The wish is that for the next few minutes to answer some questions that I will give you to the best of your ability."
Lina's eyes flashed red for a moment.
"Wish granted."
Gourry shook his head. "Sorry Lina, but I think it needs to be done this way."
Lina just glared at him.
Gourry shrugged. "Are there certain orders or wishes that you are unable to grant that you can tell me about."
"Yes," Lina said with irritation.
"What are they?"
"You can not order me to have sex with you. You can not order me to run around with no clothes on. You can not order or wish that I lose my memories. Any of those things will confine me to your ring for a year and a day unless someone else acquires the ring. I can be ordered to answer to a different name, but I will always know who I am."
"So anything that personally affects you, you don't have to grant."
"Unless I want to, yes that is correct."
"Feel a bit better about the situation."
As tears ran down Lina's cheeks, she nodded. "Yes. Yes, I do. I still have some protection against this."
"Are you immortal?"
"I don't age, but I can be killed. It's both easier and harder to do that."
"What is the easy way to kill you?" Gourry asked in reluctance. "I want to protect you, so I really need to know to prevent it from happening."
"Destroy the ring before I am freed. I will just dissolve into smoke and blow away on the wind if that happens."
"It's a good thing I did ask that question. I was thinking of using the Sword of Light to break the ring."
Lina shuddered at how close her death was.
"How long does it usually take a genie to be freed of enslavement?"
"I don't know. The range goes from one thousand and one days to ten thousand years."
Lina looked shocked at those numbers.
"You didn't know?"
"No. I only knew instinctively."
Gourry sat down on a rock and gave a thoughtful glance at Lina.
"Time for a wish. I promised to free you from this, but time is my enemy. I will need to be reborn over and over again in order to free you from this. The ring will have to make it to me after I die and am born each time. That is my wish," Gourry stated.
Lina's eyes glowed red, as she stared at Gourry. "I don't know how."
"Then the next wish is to figure out how until you can grant that wish. But for now, let's go find Prince Phil."
Lina's glowed brighter and she closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes, her eyes were back to normal and she looked at Gourry in gratitude.
"Thanks Gourry."
"Don't worry about it Lina. I partially responsible for this mess, and I intend to correct it. By the way, I wish I knew what those people were after."
Lina's eyes flashed red for a moment.
"At first they were after the Philosopher's Stone that I removed and it is now stored within the gem of your ring. They are now all after me because they found out that I am a genie now. Rezo has the suspicion that I have the stone and intends to merge it with me. Wish granted," Lina said in a monotone.
Lina shuddered after she granted the wish. "Now I understand why that stone causes me to tingle like that. It's a magic amplifier and I am pretty much a being composed of magic."
"What will it do to you to be merged with the stone?"
"I have no idea. It will probably boost my powers, but.... I really don't have a clue," Lina replied. "I really don't want to find out."
Gourry thought for a moment and then nodded.
"I wish to know why they were after the philistine stone," Gourry stated.
"Philosopher's Stone," Lina corrected automatically as her eyes flashed. "Rezo wanted it to restore his sight. Zelgadis wants it to take revenge on Rezo for turning him into a chimera and try to restore his body back to normal."
"If Rezo gets a hold of the ring, what will happen?" Gourry asked.
"Nothing. I can't obey him. I will just stay trapped within the ring," Lina replied automatically and then looked confused.
"Something wrong?" Gourry asked.
"Not really. I just don't know why I can't obey Rezo at all."
"Is there anyone else that you have met that you can not obey?"
"My big sister Luna," Lina said. "I have no idea why."
"I could wish it, but I'm not going to bother," Gourry said. "We can figure that out later."
