At first, no one knew what to make of the news that this new student had married Kasumi Tendo—no, wait, it had to be Kasumi Saotome, otherwise her husband would have introduced himself as Ranma Tendo. Once this sank in, the students finally started reacting, and much to Ranma’s relief, it was mostly positive.
The boys started shaking his hands, slapping his back and pretty much affirming his choice of a bride.
“Way to go, dude!”
“Man, you got yourself quite a catch there.”
“Wow! You managed to find someone who’s pretty and a good cook.”
“So, what’s she like in bed?”
“Will you get your mind out of the gutter? This is Kasumi we’re talking about.”
“Oh, right. Sorry.”
The girls, on the other hand, stayed a bit further away, and started speculating about the details of their romance (there just had to be romance in this story).
“Do you suppose it was love at first sight, or they had to build up their relationship?”
“It has to be the second one—nobody really falls in love at first sight.”
“Well, in Kasumi’s case, it was probably love at first bite.”
“What?!”
“You know, she’s a good cook, so when Ranma first tried her cooking….”
“Oh. I thought you meant something else.”
“Will you get your mind out of the gutter? This is Kasumi we’re talking about.”
“Oh, right. Sorry.”
All in all, everyone present was quite congratulatory towards Ranma and seemed extremely happy for the couple.
Well, almost everyone present.
“You would defile the sacred tradition of marriage so you could spread your deviancy?! I shall not allow it!” Kuno again lunged at the pigtailed martial artist, who easily dodged the thrust of his opponent’s bokken (with the result that said bokken became embedded in the wall).
Ranma just rolled his eyes and turned to the teacher. “Hey, Tanaka-sensei, I don’t mean ta try an’ cut outta yer class, but it looks like this guy won’t leave well enough alone. Ya mind if I take care of this somewhere else so nobody gets hurt?”
Mr. Tanaka was all too happy to allow Ranma to remove this rather obnoxious distraction from his classroom. In fact, was pleasantly surprised that this new boy would not only ask his permission to take care of this problem, but would explain his reasoning, as several of the local martial artists (most notably Kuno) simply assumed they had the right to do what they wanted whenever they wanted. “Might I suggest using the soccer field? I don’t think there are any gym classes right now.”
Ranma ducked Kuno’s swing before he answered. “How do I get there?”
“Just go down the hall, take a left, go down two flights of stairs, and then head outside through the double doors. The soccer field should be on your right, just past the swimming pool.”
“Thanks!” Ranma said with a wave as he exited the classroom, with Kuno hot on his tail.
Several students moved to follow them, but they were interrupted by their teacher. “And just where do you think you’re going?”
“Well, the new guy’s going out to fight Kuno….”
“He seems perfectly capable of handling the situation himself.”
However, this group of students would not be deterred in their desire to view what promised to be a really awesome fight. “But what if he gets hurt? Kuno may be an idiot, but he’s really good.”
“Hmmm… I suppose you have a point….”
“Awesome!” the students moved toward the door again.
“Who said you could go anywhere?”
“What? But you said—”
“I said you had a point about the new boy getting hurt. I didn’t say you would be the ones to assist him. In fact, I think it would be best if his sister-in-law did this, as she’s family. Don’t you agree, Akane?”
“Huh? Oh… yeah. That makes sense, I guess.”
“Then I suggest you follow your brother-in-law to make sure nothing happens to him… oh, and make sure you give him this hall pass when he’s done.”
“Okay.”
As Akane left, Mr. Tanaka moved back to the task at hand—teaching his class. “Alright, now who can tell me what the terms of the Open Door policy were?”
