Scroll Saga: You CAN teach an old pig new tricks... [Episode 160652]

by Master Roy

Ranma panicked and checked his pockets several more times. Then the thought that it could have been a dream came to him, and he tried levitating. He lifted off of the ground at a moderate pace and knew that it wasn't a dream. He scowled as he landed and ran downstairs in search of his father. When he got there, he noticed that no one was there. There was a note on the Shogi board, and Ranma groaned.

Ranma, Uncle Saotome and Father are at Jiro's. Going to the market. - Kasumi

Ranma frowned at the prompt noticed. Jiro's was a local bar that Soun and Genma went to whenever they were celebrating the union of the families. He knew he would have to look out for strange things soon and sighed. Well, this meant one of two things: Either he was home alone, or Nabiki was sleeping in today, that is, if she ever made it home last night. He decided to check just that and was satisfied that she was there, safe and sound. He walked out of the house and stood outside, slowly raising into the air. The best place to practice flying, and then fighting in the air, would be a rural place where he couldn't crash into anything.

He flew away from Nerima at what could be considered a very high speed - for someone who'd just started. He looked down with awe as he saw things from a new perspective.

Ryouga sat with the scroll in his hands. When Ranma left the dojo the day before, he had followed the boy out and waited for the boy to fall asleep.

The first thing he noticed was that Akane was nowhere to be seen - this unnerved him to no end. Where was she, and why didn't anyone seem to notice? "That Ranma, slacking off! If she's been kidnapped again..." He swore violence on Ranma several times before he got back to the task at hand.

"First, focus the Chi into your belly. Then lift it up without letting it leave your body. After a minute or two, the Chi should spread out to the rest of your body." He nodded and put the scroll down next to his huge pack and stood up, letting the Chi gather in his abdomen like in the scroll. Flight was a technique that even a normal person could do; that is, given they knew how to manipulate Chi. It drained a minimum amount of chi to allow Chi attacks during a fight and after a while became as natural as standing up or walking, even Running.

Ryoga gasped as he floated, albeit a bit wobbly in the air. This was of course the most basic of the instructions, but it still overwhelmed him. I'm flying, He thought. I'm actually flying! This is so... wow. Ranma's sleeping right now, so if I practice all night, and find him in the morning, I should have the advantage!

Now he smirked as he easily flew through the air with the pack on his back. He was moving faster than he ever could running and his Chi was glowing a bright green around and even left a trail of energy. He felt like one of those planes with the smoke trails behind it. He didn't know where he was going, but now that he had the power of flight, he knew he could easily find Ranma...

Meanwhile, with Ranma, things weren't looking so great. Ranma was stuck. Not literally or physically stuck somewhere, but kind of at a loss. His flight was getting steadily better, but there was a slight problem with speed. His turning wasn't the greatest - the destroyed trees and mountain craters were testament to that. He either turned too sharply or not enough. He some how needed his consciousness to move faster - as fast as he did when he was flying. He was sure that was somewhere in the scroll, but it was gone, and he needed to figure out how before whoever else had it came back and challenged him.

Ranma sighed as he sat on the branch of a tree and opened his bag and took a lunch out of it. It was just a simple lunch, nothing too large as he had been anxious to train, but it left him wanting more. He decided to postpone his awareness training in favor of getting food, and flew back towards Nerima at full speed. He was there in minutes, and marveled at how fast he'd gotten in the air. "This is possibly the greatest technique ever made,"

"You think so?" Said a familiar voice. Ranma blinked with surprise and turned to the source of the voice. It was the Genie. "The man who wrote those scrolls wrote several more," She started.

"Really?! Where are they?" He asked. She shrugged and smiled at him.

"I don't know. I was only able to get you that one." She said "They could be gone, lost forever, or not," She said. "But regardless, You're hardly qualified to use them. Flight was the easiest one is all. The rest of them could kill you at this time,"

Ranma frowned at the implications of this. These were ancient techniques that were begging to be learned, but he couldn't. Not yet, from what she was telling him. "Why are you telling me this?" He asked.

"No particular reason," She said. "But if you really want one, I think you're kind of cute," She winked. The floating girl snickered as he groaned.

"Great, that's just what I need... another admirer,"

The girl giggled again. "I'm not stupid enough to pursue a relationship with you," She assured him. "Don't worry about that. I just felt like giving you a heads up for all the trouble you've gone through," She said. Ranma shrugged and flew away, but not before turning his head and thanking her. She snickered as she once again considering entering a relationship with the mortal. Not that he would be mortal for long...
