The Gundam Seed Variations: What Mayu Asuka Never Got To Do (In Canon) [Episode 161124]

by Linnara

Mayu Asuka runs with her parents, her brother Shinn running behind her.The nature park they were running through had suddenly and nightmarishly turned into a warzone, with Mobile Suits circling each other in the grey and blue sky, like birds of prey...

She remembers her mobile phone go hurtling down the slope, vaguely. It is the last thing she remembers.

She does not remember the medics finding her, or prying her brother's body off her. It is a miracle that she survived, they say. She wouldn't have survived at all if her brother hadn't tried to shield her with his body.

And she does not remember the blood or smell of her brother's flesh burning along with hers, which is all to the good. Or so her doctors think.

**Option A

It takes months for her to heal, but Mayu Asuka is adamant. She is going to PLANT, like her family had planned to, those few months ago that seem like an eternity.

She goes straight into the ZAFT Academy, once she manages to actually get there.

She wants to be a pilot, like Shinn had wanted once, but the Academy tells her her talents lie elsewhere. She gets training in data analysis and admin, and manages to do pretty well, which is strange. She'd never been able to even keep her room neat, till...

She meets Rey Za Burrel in the cafeteria, when they ended up clashing serving spoons for the last helping of not-really-chicken-but-who-cares salad pasta. She wins that one, but gives him half.

It is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Maybe. Or maybe not.

**Option B

It takes months for her to heal, but Mayu Asuka is adamant. She is going to PLANT, like her family had planned to, those few months ago that seem like an eternity.

She goes straight into the ZAFT Academy, once she manages to actually get there.

She wants to be a pilot, like Shinn had wanted once. The Academy tells her her talents lie elsewhere, but she is like stone, like concrete, like the rocky shoals around far Orb. They finally let her in the piloting course. She works day and night, and manages to keep up, somehow.

Rey Za Burrel is famous, as is Lunamaria Hawke, the gold and red, as somebody put it.

She's a bit shocked when they end up talking in the cafeteria one day, and even more so when he ends up tutoring her. He asks her about life on Earth, and she answers as well as she can. She wishes she had learned more, though, instead of taking everything for granted.

She also discovers that kissing Rey makes him get pink and stuttery and make fluttering motions, later on. Maybe she shouldn't have drunk that mixer-mix cocktail on a dare, even if the Finals were at long last over...

Though she didn't regret it though, not really. Rey was remarkably cute.

**Option C

It takes months for her to heal. Mayu Asuka thinks long and meandering thoughts, before opting to stay on Orb. There are so many less Coordinators living in Orb, now - though still much more then pretty much any other country on Earth, of course.

She takes the Scholorship for children orphaned in the War, and goes to Onogoro U. She could have gone to Uni at least even without the Scholorship, as her parents had left them a fair amount of money, as it turned out, but it was nice not to have to spend that money, nonetheless.

She meets Rey Za Burrel while the Minerva was being repaired, though she doesn't know that part, of course. At a pizza shop, of all places.

He asks her why she didn't come to PLANT when so many Coordinators did, and she says she loves Orb.

It wasn't really a lie, even if it wasn't all the truth. She really did, after all.

Sometime in her first year at Uni, she starts to do volunteer work at a orphanage near by, and is somewhat shocked to hear that the pink-haired young lady that seems to live there is actually Lacus Clyne. Yes, the Lacus Clyne. Mayu is a bit awed, even though she tries not to show it. She also learns that young man who watched the sea a lot was called Kira, and seemed to be a very nice person, if a bit on the morose side sometimes.

It is pure bad luck that she's there when the pretty damn obviously Coordinator Special Forces hit the orphanage, but at least she isn't dead, even if she is hurt, yet again.

She doesn't meet Rey Za Burrel till much later, but meet him she does.

**Option D

It takes months for her to heal. Mayu Asuka thinks. And screams at the world.
